Mother
Brain Damage And Death Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They don't care, pollute water
It will be the human slaughter
Don't listen to what They say
Try to save another day
Please, just open your mind
Try to solve it and don't be blind
Please, just open your mind
Try to solve it and don't be blind
They don't see, pollute air
For normal people it isn't fair
Nuclear bomb their masterpiece
Hate each other, there's no peace
Please, just open your mind
Try to solve it and don't be blind
Please, just open your mind
Try to solve it and don't be blind
Please, just open your mind
Try to solve it and don't be blind

Please, just open your mind
Try to solve it and don't be blind

Overall Meaning

The song "Mother" by Brain Damage And Death is a reflection on the destructive nature of fame and the toll it takes on both the individual and those around them. The opening lines "Tic toc, time is up" serve as a reminder that nothing in life is permanent and that fame and success are fleeting. The lyrics then address the object of fame, who is described as the one on the magazine covers and in all the movies. While this person may have achieved a significant level of success, they are also portrayed as being disconnected from reality, convinced that their "shit doesn't stink."

The chorus, which features the repeated phrase "Mother may I have a moment," is a cry for help and a plea for someone to stop the singer's world from spinning out of control. The next verse switches to addressing the father figure, who is asked to "stop the bleeding" and help the singer regain some sense of normalcy. The song ultimately concludes with a reference to the Serenity Prayer, which asks for the serenity to accept what cannot be changed, the courage to change what can be, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Overall, "Mother" is a cautionary tale about the dangers of fame and the importance of staying grounded in the face of success. It highlights the idea that even those who seem to have everything they want can struggle with feelings of dissatisfaction and despair.

@Caitlin Somers I'm sorry but you are wrong. I am a former alcoholic. I abused booze everyday, all day, multiple times in the day. YES, you're right. It IS an addiction and it is VERY hard to just quit and stop. People STRUGGLE in their lives with different things and I struggled with addiction in my past and I am now 3 years clean and sober. I got the help I desperately needed after my drinking and suicide attempt. I could drone on about my entire story but that's all that's needed to know for now and I can most definitely say that it IS a choice!

Choices are made when you CHOOSE to pick up the bottle with your own hands and drink before driving or drink everyday. It IS something you can overcome. It's just that those CHOICES that you MAKE for yourself are bad choices. It's called struggle. Seriously, don't sit here and tell me that it isn't a choice. Cancer is not a choice, sexuality is not a choice, epilepsy is not a choice (which I have), the parts we are born with are not a choice. Choosing to pick up a bottle of booze IS definitely a CHOICE.

I chose to do things that were bad habits for myself. Plain and simple. Don't tell me that it "isn't a choice." That man chose to drink and get inside the car and drive it knowing damn well good and hard what the possible consequences would be and what the laws are. HOWEVER, I do sympathize with BOTH people. The addict felt truly bad for his major mistake, he never intended to harm that child but it happened and whenever something like this happens, it is your responsibility as an adult to take the punishment for actively endangering someone else's life. I also majorly sympathize with the mother because no mother should have to experience that for her child.

I WAS an alcoholic. It is a choice. Stop being insultive to people who EVERY DAY, do not get to CHOOSE their own reality's. Things like CANCER is not a choice. Picking up a bottle of booze with your hand and drinking it, IS. It's about having poor mental health and making poor decisions. That's it. I think the terms you're looking for are moreover "poor mental health" rather than just pretending and saying "It isn't a choice" because that only enables the excuses to allow it to happen more. Trust me, I was an addict and I've grown up around addicts my entire life. DO NOT even dare to begin trying to tell someone that picking up a bottle of booze is not a choice. It is. It's just a poor choice made in poor mental health and it needed to be treated with help from others, therapy or A.A groups which help a lot so those people don't choose to do it again in the future. This way, people can have brighter futures.

Saying that picking up booze isn't a choice is pretty damn fucking insulting to people who everyday have to struggle with things that really AREN'T choices like birth defects and ect. Do not Madam.

@JellyFinger Perhaps what you say is true, but Mrs. Khader forgave Stewart Richardson after her son Abdallah died. However, I agree with Mrs. Khader; being sorry doesn't cut it. She will mourn her child's death until her dying day; this I know for a fact.
