Lie To Me
Breaker Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I didn't have to play detective with your words
I didn't have to look for clues
Your big mistake was that you chose
to speak at all
Now we'll play the game
And now you'll lose

(Chorus:)
Go on and tell me
What you feel
Make me believe
In what you see
Go on now, go on
Lie to me

It's gettin' hard to keep a smile from my face
It's gettin' hard to look at you
You've pushed your point until your
story's full of holes
It's one more turn
Of one more screw

(Chorus)

It seems your plans and schemes are
always falling through
Cause I hear everything
You never say

(Chorus)

Overall Meaning

The first stanza of Breaker's song "Lie to Me" shows that the persona didn't have to use his detective skills to know the truth in the situation. The persona didn't look for clues or investigate further because the person speaking already conveyed the truth with their flawed words. Now, the persona wants to play a game with the person who spoke badly by lying to them instead. The person who spoke will now lose.

In the chorus, the persona asks the person who spoke to tell them what they feel and make them believe in what they see. They request this because the person already lied once before. They encourage the person to lie one more time. This time, the persona will know the truth even though it's not the truth the person is telling them. The persona's intentionally looking for a lie this time.

The second verse of the song shows that it's getting harder for the persona to stay calm and composed. They find it challenging to look at the person who lied to them earlier. The person who had lied has already talked their way to a hole, and there's no way to change that. This time, the persona wants to screw the person who lied over one more time.
