Taste it
Bugg Jake Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Fill my head with the future
Fill my eyes with the sky
Whole of my life I've been left behind but I've never felt more alive
High speed conversations
Speeding on down the line
Looked in your eyes said the saddest goodbye but I've never felt more alive

I can taste it
In my mouth it's just so bitter sweet
it's right there in your eyes of apple green
It should be easy but it's hard to leave

Went down in a fiery Zeppelin
You won't know if you don't try
Nothing but my shirt and I walked away hurt but I've never felt more alive

Talking on a bad connection
Think I might have fused a wire
Your on the other side as I've always sussed out but I've never felt more alive

I can taste it
In my mouth it's just so bittersweet
It's right there in your eyes of apple green
It should be easy but it's hard to leave

Yeah and this road between us
Man it's been a long hard drive
You pay for it in the morning when your best friend is denied

Flying all around never looking down no I've never felt more alive
Journeys going fast I hope it's gonna last 'cause I've never felt more alive, oh

I can taste it
In my mouth it's just so bittersweet

It's right there in your eyes of apple green
It should be easy but it's hard to leave

Overall Meaning

The song Taste It by Jake Bugg is about an intense and exhilarating relationship that is coming to an end. The singer is reflecting on how they have never felt more alive, despite the sadness and bitterness of the situation. The opening lines "Fill my head with the future/ Fill my eyes with the sky" suggest a desire for adventure and excitement. The singer is craving the thrill of new experiences and the possibility of a brighter future. However, this is contrasted with the line "Whole of my life I've been left behind", indicating that the singer may feel like they have been held back in the past.

Throughout the song, the sense of urgency and intensity is reinforced through imagery of high-speed conversations, bad connections, and fiery crashes. The repeated refrain "I can taste it" emphasizes the bittersweet nature of the situation. The singer can sense the possibility of a better future, but at the same time, they are struggling with the pain of leaving their partner behind.

Overall, Taste It is a powerful and emotional song that captures the complexity of human relationships and the intense feelings that can arise when things fall apart.

I just want to go back to 2013 when I spent all day listening to jake bugg while playing games after a long day of school.
I was so happy, and unaware of it.

I can relate about listening to jake bugg in past times. I miss his old music

I love this. It starts off all 50s country (GOOD country) and then the chorus melds into a bouncy, 21st century masterpiece. And he's only 18. I'm expecting big things from this guy, but for now this is brilliant!

In my youth it seemed that talent got you somewhere. You didn't have to go through all sorts of unnecessary publicity, image building, promotional packaging and other things which drowned the message of your music. This stuff really is a breath of fresh air.

This guy is just genius at such a young age. What a crackin tune. And the band are awesome, they should take some credit too... More Jake, just gives more tunes....

The problem with all these negative commentators is they don't appreciate real music from the 60's, 50's even 40's and 80's. They only enjoy modern turnes. Jake has an oldie style to his music only those who can appreciate the oldies can truly appreciate Jake. If he had come out around the same time the Beatles were popular, he'd be a legend right now.
