Mr. Harlan started as an opera singer in the 1880s, and around 1890 he worked upon the stage with Charles Hoyt, by the time he started recording in 1899, he was already well-known so having him start this new field was an unsure gamble, bug he was certainly up to it. He would never have known that his recording would last all the way to about 1926.
