Rumors
CRAWFORD JOHNNY Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Saturday, steppin' into the club
Somebody wanna tell DJ to turn it up
I feel the energy all around
And my body can't stop moving to the sound

But I can tell that you're watching me
And you're probably gonna write what you didn't see
Well I just need a little space to breathe
Can you please respect my privacy

Why can't you just let me
Do the things I wanna do
I just wanna be me
I don't understand why
Would you wanna bring me down
If I'm only having fun
I'm going live my life
(not the way you want me to)

I'm tired of rumors starting
I'm sick of being followed
I'm tired of people lying
Sayin' what they want about me
Why can't they back up off me
Why can't they let me live
I'm gonna do it my way
Take this for just what it is

Here we are back up in the club
People taking pictures
Don't you think they get enough
I just wanna be all over the floor
And throw my hands up in the air to the beat like (What?)

I've gotta say respectfully
I would like it if you take the cameras off of me
Cause I just want a little room to breathe
Can you please respect my privacy

Why can't you just let me
Do the things I wanna do
I just wanna be me
I don't understand why
Would you wanna bring me down
If I'm only having fun
I wanna live my life
(not the way you want me to)

I'm tired of rumors starting
I'm sick of being followed
I'm tired of people lying
Sayin' what they want about me
Why can't they back up off me
Why can't they let me live
I'm gonna do it my way
Take this for just what it is

I just need to free my mind (my mind)
Just wanna dance and have a good time (good time)

I'm tired of rumors (rumors)
Followed (followed, followed, followed, followed, followed)

What they (follow) me
Why can't they (they they they-they-they) let me live

Take this for just what it is

I'm tired of rumors starting
I'm sick of being followed
I'm tired of people lying
Sayin' what they want about me
Why can't they back up off me
Why can't they let me live
I'm gonna do it my way
Take this for just what it is

I'm tired of rumors starting
I'm sick of being followed
I'm tired of people lying
Sayin' what they want about me
Why can't they back up off me
Why can't they let me live

I'm gonna do it my way
Take this for just what it is

Overall Meaning

The song "Rumours" by Crawford Johnny is an anthem for those who are constantly followed and judged by other people. It starts off with the singer walking into a club where the energy is high, but they sense that someone is watching them. They ask that person to give them space and respect their privacy, and not spread rumors about them. The chorus is a repetition of the desire to be left alone and allowed to live life on their own terms, without judgment.

The second verse continues this theme, with the singer saying that they just want to dance and have a good time, but people keep taking pictures and following them. They again ask for their privacy to be respected. The bridge is a plea to be able to "free" their mind and not be weighed down by rumors and judgment.

The song is all about the concept of celebrity and the lack of privacy that fame brings. It is a commentary on the fact that many people crave fame, yet they don't understand the cost of that public exposure. The song points to the idea that everyone deserves to have their privacy respected, no matter who they are.

I can listen to Johnny for hours and never grow tired of his voice. I don't think he ever got the credit he so well deserved.

@regionalunityproductions6204

I listen to Johnny Crawford Radio on I-Heart Radio every day for 2 years now.

@TonyGPizza

Unlike most TV stars who recorded in the early rock and roll days Johnny could actually sing. This was a good song and he sang it well, leading dance bands near the end of his life.

I'm guessing you are aware he passed away today.

@Liam Hanrahan Rest in peace! I always remember him playing guitar for fellow Mouseketeer Cheryl Holdridge in Rifleman. He was such a cute kid.

Well Johnny Crawford had a beautiful voice to go along with his beautiful face! He was truly amazing as Mark on the Rifleman! I was born in the 70's, so I didn't discover The Rifleman until the year 2001 on cable! Great show....great guy!

I grew up in Wisconsin (1945), now in Tucson, AZ. His songs below are on my PCs & car usb.
Excellent recordings from the greatest era in pop music: DooWop thru early Motown 1957-1963
Your Nose Is Gonna Grow; Rumors Proud; Patti Ann; Devil Or Angel; Cindy's Birthday
Johnny has Altzheimers, so his songs mean even more to me now.

A very favorite of mine from the era of music that will never come again: 1958-1963, Johnny Crawford had a string of absolutely great songs from a time that lives so deep in my memory.

I just watched an old episode of 'The Rifleman.' This was the first time I had ever seen 'Mark' ...Johnny Crawford sing in the show. I had no idea. Great voice!
