There Is a Reason
Caedmon's Call Lyrics

Sometimes I wonder why
Sometimes I'm so tired
I don't even try
Seems everything around me fails
But I hold on to the promise
That there is a reason
The history of the saints who've gone in front of me
Through famine, plague and disbelief
His hand was still upon them
Cause there is a reason
There is a reason
He makes all things good
He makes all things good
There's a time to live and a time to die
A time for wonder and to wonder why
Cause there is a reason
There is a reason
I believe in a God who sent His only son
To walk upon this world and give His life for us
With blood and tears on a long, dark night
We know that He believed
That there is a reason
There is a reason
For the lonely nights
And broken hearts
The widow's mite
In the rich man's hand
And the continent
Whose blood becomes a traitor
For the child afraid to close their eyes
The prayers that seem unanswered
There is a reason
There is a reason
The song "There Is a Reason" by Caedmon's Call is a beautiful and poignant reflection on life's challenges and the assurance of a greater purpose. The singer questions why things sometimes seem to fail, why they feel tired and unable to continue, and why it is difficult to see in the darkness of night. But despite these doubts and struggles, the singer holds onto the promise that there is a reason for everything.
The lyrics draw from the history of the saints who have gone before, enduring through famine, plague, and disbelief, with the reassurance that God's hand was still upon them. The song acknowledges the reality of difficult times and the need to wonder and question. Though it may seem that prayers go unanswered, that there is loneliness, pain, and brokenness, the song asserts that there is a reason behind it all.
The latter half of the song shifts to focus on the ultimate reason: that God sent His only son to walk upon this world and give His life for us. The lyrics reference the blood and tears on the long, dark night of Jesus' crucifixion, and the assurance that He believed there was a reason for it all. The song concludes with a list of specific scenarios, from the child afraid to close their eyes to a continent torn apart by conflict, with the refrain that there is a reason for everything.
In short, "There Is a Reason" is a deeply introspective and hopeful song, acknowledging the challenges of life while asserting a belief in something greater. It offers a beautiful reminder to hold onto hope and trust in the greater purpose behind it all.

I had no idea who Caedmon was too, but I check Wikipedia, and it appears he was a man who lived in the seventh century. He couldn't sing, but after an angel appeared to him, he could sing beautiful verses. You can read the full story on Wikipedia, there's a short summary of the story on the page about Caedmon's Call, and a link to the page about Caedmon himself.
