Laredo
Cagle Chris Lyrics

And that's the way we'll be, 'til the day I die
Yeah, it's good to know you're on my side
'Cause now you know she's leavin' me
And I need your help to make her see
So turn on your charm and let it shine
So when she gets to the city limits sign
Don't let me down
Oh-whoa Laredo
Don't let her go
Just take her by the heart
And let the wheels turn slow
Whoa-oh Laredo
You're my only hope
So get her back to the day we met
'Cause that's as far as she needs to get
Oh, but please don't let her go
Oh Laredo
Make her think 'bout the moonlit walks
And the long long talks by the waters edge
With her feet hangin' off the Canyon Creek Bridge
And bring to mind the first kiss we shared
At the Old Town Square when she drives down there
'Cause that's the day she said she could never forget
And keep the nights by the candlelight
As an ace in the hole
'Cause those are nights of passion
That I know will bring her home
Oh-whoa Laredo
Don't let her go
Just take her by the heart
And let the wheels turn slow
Whoa-oh Laredo,
You're my only hope
So get her back to the day we met
'Cause that's as far as she needs to get
Oh, but please don't let her go
Oh Laredo!
Whoa-oh Laredo
Don't let her go
Take her by the heart
And let the wheels turn slow
Whoa-oh Laredo
You're my only hope
So get her back to the day we met
'Cause that's as far as she needs to get
Oh, but please don't let her go
Oh Laredo!
Don't let her go!
You're my only hope!
Whoa Laredo, oh
The lyrics to Chris Cagle's song "Laredo" speak of a man who is reaching out to his friend for help because his girlfriend is leaving him. He sees his friend as someone who has always been able to charm her into staying, and he is asking him to use his charm once again to win her back. The lyrics showcase a sense of desperation and heartbreak, as the man is willing to do anything to get his girlfriend back, and he is putting his faith in his friend to help him.
The song is full of vivid imagery, from moonlit walks, long talks by the water's edge, and the first kiss they shared, to the passionate nights spent by candlelight. The man is trying to remind his girlfriend of these special moments they shared together, hoping that they will rekindle her love for him.
The chorus, "Oh Laredo, don't let her go, just take her by the heart and let the wheels turn slow," is a plea to the city itself, as if Laredo itself has the power to keep his girlfriend from leaving him. The song speaks to the power of love, the desperation that comes when that love is at risk, and the hope that it can be rekindled.

I went to a concert he held on my college campus back in the 90s. The show was awesome and I got to meet him after the show. He was a sweetheart and a true gentleman. My husband hadn't gone to show with me and Mr. Cagle was concerned about me having to walk across campus after dark. He offered to have one of his band members walk me home to our apartment but my husband arrived about that time. It was such a sweet gesture.
