Firelight
Caligula's Horse Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The stars will fade, the sun will rise
But I′ll remember you were my firelight

The lucky ones, we were born
We will not be here for long

And I've been waiting on a sign of life
An "everything is alright"
Gone with the sun
Voices as one
And in the moment we will carry that light on

This is for the ones who burned so short, and so bright
And I have never been so sure you′re firelight

How could this all last
When we burn so brightly?
Friends, give me your hands
Raise your voices with me
And how could this all last
When we burn so brightly?

We'll escape like spark and shadow
Knowing that the world will end
I will say:
"The stars will fade, the sun will rise
But I'll remember you were my firelight."

Oh, and this is for the ones who burned so short, and so bright
No, and I have never been so sure you′re firelight
Oh, this is for the ones who burned so short, and so bright
No, and I have never been so sure you′re firelight

How could this all last
When we burn so brightly?
Friends, give me your hands
Raise your voices with me

How could this all last
When we burn so brightly?
Friends, give me your hands
Raise your voices with me

How could this all last
When we burn so brightly?
Friends, give me your hands
And remember with me

How could this all last
When we burn so brightly?

Friends, give me your hands
And remember with me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in "Firelight" by Caligula's Horse convey a message about the fleeting nature of life and the impact that certain individuals can have on us. The first verse sets the tone by acknowledging that stars will fade and the sun will rise, indicating the passing of time. However, amidst the transience of existence, the singer holds on to the memory of someone who served as their "firelight," a metaphorical representation of a guiding light or source of inspiration.

The chorus reflects on the brevity of life, emphasizing how the fortunate ones are aware that their time on Earth is limited. They recognize that their presence in this world will be brief, and as a result, they long for a sign that everything is alright, a sense of reassurance in the face of mortality. The reference to the sun and voices coming together suggests a collective unity and shared light that will endure beyond their individual existence.

In the following verse, the lyrics acknowledge the temporary nature of human existence and how bright flames tend to burn out quickly. The singer is fully confident in recognizing this person as their firelight, indicating that they were a special and powerful influence in their life. They question how such intensity can be sustained and continue to last when it burns so brightly. At this point, the narrative shifts to a plea for connection and unity among friends, symbolized by giving hands and raising voices together.

The final repetition of the chorus emphasizes the transient nature of life yet again and reinforces the significance of the person being referred to as firelight. It is a call to cherish these moments and individuals, as they will be remembered even after they are gone. The repeated appeal for connection and remembrance serves as a reminder to appreciate and value the impactful relationships we have in our lives, as they contribute to our journey and shape our memories. Ultimately, "Firelight" invites listeners to reflect on the ephemeral nature of existence while celebrating the enduring impact of significant connections.

@Music Lover No.277 I dislike the idea of a bunch of little lords running around stealing the wealth of their workforce and calling themselves CEOs and the rest of society pretends that they worked 1 billion times harder than their work force.
And regular people under (most forms of) capitalism, the system i am describing, can't afford houses, cars, health care, a $500 emergency, college, healthy food, medicine, ... and on and on . Really, what's to like about (most forms of) capitalism? Nothing at all. We never say it,. but it kills millions every year in a number of ways.
With worker owned co-ops, workers have part ownership. They share in the profits. their labor is fairly compensated.
Anyone who pretends capitalism is the best, is doing so against all reason and logic and ethics.
Again, I didn't say I was a Socialist. I didn't say I like socialism. I said I was a Social democrat.

Now, Social Democracy is still Capitalism. Its just very well regulated. Most Capitalism is not. Denmark is well regulated capitalism ion the Soc. Dem. style. I like that.
Basically, I like the idea of treating people with compassion. Which is still a radical idea according to the elites that horde all the wealth currently.
Under (the dominant, american style/form of... ) capitalism, we have deemed it ok for 1 person to have more wealth than 500 million people.
Are we really supposed to believe this is a meritocracy? Did that person work 500 million times harder/smarter than the workers? No.
I mean, they are literally called workers,. They do the work. CEOs work as well, but it's wealth capture. That's the defining characteristic of their work.
the donor class would have NOTHING with out the worker class.
