Olson, along with Kathy Valentine (a future member of the Go-Go's), formed the Textones in the early '80s for a few singles on IRS. (Most of these tracks appear on Through the Canyon [Rhino] and Back in Time [Demon U.K.].) The band's major-label debut, Midnight Mission (A&M), included help from Don Henley, Ry Cooder, Barry Goldberg, and Gene Clark. Cedar Creek, the band's second album, appeared in 1987 on Enigma Records. Olson then worked on many projects, including ones by John Fogerty, Henley, and Eric Johnson and a duet album with Clark. In 1988, she recorded a self-titled solo album (for Amigo Musik) in Sweden, backed by Wilmer X. After another duet project, this time with former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor, Olson's second solo LP (Within an Ace) was released in 1993 on Watermelon Records; Reap the Whirlwind followed the next year. That album signaled a period of relative quiet from the guitarist, as she disappeared into private life while her best-of collection hit the shelves.
It wasn't until 2001 that Olson returned, boasting The Ring of Truth, an album featuring Taylor and a handful of roots rock tunes that showcased her weathered vocals and comfortable sound. Olson has also found success on the other side of the studio glass, producing records for Barry Goldberg, Dona Oxford, Jake Andrews, Joe Louis Walker, Davis Gaines, Mare Winningham, and Phil Upchurch.
She Don't Care About Time
Carla Olson Lyrics

To go up to my white walled room out on the end of time
Where I can be with my love for she is all that is mine
And she'll always be there, my love don't care about time
I laugh with her, cry with her, hold her close she is mine
The way she tells me of her love and never is she trying
She don't have to be assured of many good things to find
Her eyes are dark and deep with love, her hair hangs long and fine
She walks with ease and all she sees is never wrong or right
And with her arms around me tight I see her all in my mind
And she'll always be there my love don't care about time
The lyrics of Carla Olson's song "She Don't Care About Time" are a beautiful tribute to a pure, timeless love. The singer describes a place - a white walled room out on the end of time - where she can be with her love, who is all that is hers. In this place, time doesn't matter, and the love between the two is eternal. The lyrics describe the joy and comfort that comes with this kind of love - the ability to laugh and cry together, to hold each other close. The singer is clearly enamored of her lover, describing the dark and deep love in her eyes, her fine hair, and the way she walks with ease.
What is particularly striking about these lyrics is the sense of timelessness and universality they evoke. The love between these two people is not bound by the constraints of time or space - it exists in a place beyond all that. The singer seems almost in awe of this love, and the sense of reverence comes through in the gentle, soaring melody of the song.
In many ways, these lyrics speak to the essential human desire for connection and belonging. The singer has found that connection and belonging in her love, and the sense of contentment and peace that comes with that is palpable throughout the song. This is a song about the power of love to transcend all obstacles and challenges, to bring two people together in a bond that is pure and timeless.
