When she told you how she
But was she there when you needed that?
No, but you expect for more
When you see her tonight just
Look away, look away, look away
It's like nothing either happened
Look away, look away, look away
She was never yours for the having
It's like nothing either happened anyway
Look away, look away, no, no
Look away, look away, look away-ay-ay
No, no
Look away, look away, look away
(She was never yours for the)
Look away, look away, look away
(She was never yours for the)
Look away, look away, look away
She was never yours for the having
For the having, for the having
For the
Look away, look away
She was never yours for the having
It's like nothing either happened
Look away, look away, look away
She was never yours for the having
It's like nothing either happened
(She was never yours for the)
Look away, look away, look away
(No, she was never yours for the)
Look away, look away, look away
(She was never yours for the)
She was never yours for the having
It's like nothing either happened
The song Look Away by Caroline Polachek is a poignant commentary on the fleeting nature of relationships and the disillusionment that comes with it. The lyrics are addressed to an unnamed person who has been hurt by somebody they once loved. The first verse of the song references the moment when the person was told by their love interest about a particular incident or feeling. This could be interpreted as a moment of vulnerability and intimacy between both parties. However, the lyrics go on to question if the love interest was there for the person in their time of need. This hints at a lack of reciprocation and commitment from the other party, leaving the person feeling unfulfilled and disappointed.
In the chorus, the lyrics urge the person to look away from the love interest when they see them again. This could be interpreted as a cue for self-preservation and a desire to move on from the relationship. The lyrics repeat the phrase "she was never yours for the having", further emphasizing the idea of fleeting and impermanent relationships.
In the bridge of the song, the lyrics repeat the phrase "look away" and emphasize that the person was never really meant to have a hold on the love interest. The song ends with a repeated refrain of "she was never yours for the having, it's like nothing either happened anyway", further reinforcing the theme of love being temporary and ultimately meaningless.
Overall, Look Away is a powerful commentary on the transient nature of relationships and the disillusionment that comes with it. The lyrics are poignant and thought-provoking, and the repetition of certain phrases throughout the song adds to the emotional weight of the message.

Sbtrkt used it as the backdrop when I saw them live - the eyes moved side to side occasionally. it looked ace.
