In 1952 she married juggler Erik van Aro (Gerd Eric Horst Scholz). He recognized her talent and accompanied her in her initial years of worldwide success, although they later divorced. In 1953, she made her first recordings with Kurt Edelhagen. Soon afterwards she achieved great success with songs like "Malagueña", "The Breeze and I", and "Dreh dich nicht um" with the Werner Müller orchestra. In 1955 she was featured on the "Colgate Comedy Hour" with Gordon MacRae. Between 1966 and 1972 she was a frequent guest on the Dean Martin Show. In 1972, she married the British pianist Roy Budd; they had a son, Alexander, but they divorced in 1979.
In Germany she was a major performer of Schlager music. There she recorded Cole Porter's "I love Paris" i.e. "Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe", which sold more than 500,000 copies in (1954.) Like in other countries where she was popular, some in Germany mistakenly consider her a German singer.
Over the years, she has recorded or performed with many international stars, including Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Woody Herman, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, Buddy Rich, Sy Oliver, Claus Ogerman, and Chet Baker.
In 2001, she released a new album Girltalk with harpist Catherine Michel. She is also the mother of singer Eric van Aro, Jr.
you've got your troubles
Caterina Valente Lyrics

You've got your troubles, I've got mine
She's found somebody else to take your place
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
I too have lost my love today
All of my dreams have flown away
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
You need some sympathy, well so do I
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
She used to love me, that I know
And it don't seem so long ago
That we were walking
And we were talking
The way that lovers do
I too have lost my love today
All of my dreams have flown away
And so forgive me if I seem unkind (I ain't got no pity for you)
You've got your troubles, I've got mine (I lost, I lost, I lost my little girl
Too)
I'd help another place, another time
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
You've got your troubles, I've got mine
You've got your troubles, I've got mine.
The song "Yours" by Caterina Valente is a beautifully written ballad that captures the heart-wrenching pain and sorrow of a lost love. The lyrics delve into the feelings of two people who have lost love and are now trying to move on with their respective lives. The song's opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, "I see that worried look upon your face, You've got your troubles, I've got mine." In these lines, the singer acknowledges the pain and struggles of the person she is addressing, while also explaining that she too is dealing with her own set of problems.
The next set of lines in the song talks about how the person she is addressing has lost their lover to someone else. The singer acknowledges the pain of this situation, as it is something she too has experienced. The third set of lines describes how the two of them used to be together, walking and talking like lovers do. However, that time has now passed and both of them are now trying to move on from the loss of their respective loves.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "you've got your troubles, I've got mine," emphasizing the fact that both of them are dealing with similar problems. However, the singer also mentions that she has no pity for the person she is addressing, as she too has lost her love and is struggling to deal with the pain. The song ends with the refrain "you've got your troubles, I've got mine," which brings the song full circle and emphasizes the emotional similarities between the two individuals.
Overall, "Yours" is a hauntingly beautiful song about the pain and struggles of losing a love. The lyrics are poignant and heartfelt, and the melody is both soothing and melancholic.
