For the Money
Charlie Major Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

five days a week the whole year through
i punch the clock and see the job through
i'm in in the morning and out by five
somedays i tell you i feel barely alive

well sometimes i wonder what do i do it for
i take all i can ‘til i can't take anymore
still i know i can't walk out that door

i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
yeah that's what i do it for, for the money.

now me and the boss we don't always see eye to eye
you can never get it right no matter how hard you try
you can't get ahead, you can't fight back
you don't say a word, they'll give you the sack

well sometimes i wonder what is it all about
i put it all in and i get so little out
still i know i can't, i can't live without.

i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
yeah that's what i do it for, for the money.

bread on the table and clothes on my back
roof over my head, a little piece of land out back
thirty more years i'll have it paid back
thirty more years i can tell them to
shove it right up there………

well sometimes i wonder what do i do it for
i take all i can ‘til i can't take anymore
still i know i can't walk out that door

i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money, yeah that's what i do it for

i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money

i do it, i do it, i do it, i do it for money
yeah that's what i do it for, for the money.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Charlie Major's song For The Money is a truthful and raw depiction of the struggles of working day after day at a job that often leaves a person feeling exhausted and unfulfilled. The singer of the song states that they go to work five days a week, every week of the year, and they always see the job through. From these lines, it is clear that the singer is a hard-working individual who takes their job seriously. However, the strain of this unfulfilling job is evident as the singer says, "somedays I tell you I feel barely alive."

The chorus of the song, where the singer repeatedly sings "I do it for the money", reveals that the primary motivation behind the singer's job is solely financial gain. The job may not feed their soul, but it puts bread on the table, clothes on their back, a roof over their head, and a little piece of land out back.

The song speaks to the universal truth that not everyone loves their job or finds meaning in it, but they still have to show up and do the work for the money. It is a relatable song for anyone who has ever had a job that leaves them feeling unfulfilled and wondering if this is all there is to life.

Charlie is Metis. He did a concert in Waywayceecappo, MB reserve a few years back. My son was asked by the Cheif and Council to work as his bodyguard for the night. My son said he was a really nice guy. I use to listen to his music, he has some good tunes.
