In 2007, Charlie Winston released his self produced debut album “Make Way” and shortly after embarked on tour with Peter Gabriel on European Summer tour.
Charlie also composed music for film (The Day I will Never Forget by Kim Longinotto), theatre (Almeida Theatre, Nottinghill Gate Theatre), dance (Sadler's Wells, Ballet Rambert) and has often appeared in various TV (Top Of The Pops, Good Morning TV, CD UK) and radio shows (The Steve Merchant Show on BBC 6Music, Spanish Radio 3 with Julio Ruiz, BBC Radio with Stephen Foster).
In Charlie Winston's band, the Oxymorons, harmonica plays devil's advocate within moods, from dirty blues riffs to ethereal angelic cries, meanwhile bass, drums and guitar lay the ground rules, only to be broken. To add to it the Extramorons brass quartet puff their way to a sound that’s carnivalesque. There is an overriding positivity throughout every performance that leaves the audience wanting to dance, laugh and cry all in the same breath.

She Went Quietly
Charlie Winston Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
She was 29, showing signs of doing well
For herself.
She never spoke of feeling sad.
Was, oh, so close with the family and friends
She had around her.
She didn't make a sound.
She went quietly
With the wish not to be found.
She went quietly
Without a word of where.
Just a note that wrote:
"Forgetting is easier."
Years have fallen since the day
She wrote the note and chose to float away
Into the Ether.
Someone said they saw her south
At the coast on the river's mouth,
But only briefly.
'Cause she went quietly.
She didn't make a sound.
She went quietly
With the wish not to be found.
She went quietly
Without a word of where.
Just a note that wrote:
"Forgetting is easier."
She went quietly.
She didn't make a sound.
She went quietly
With the wish not to be found.
She went quietly
Without a word of where.
Just a note that wrote:
"Forgetting is easier."
Out of the blue, in the pouring rain,
To my doorstep, old and cold today she came,
With her story.
I asked her in, but she declined.
Had just one, single thing to get off her mind.
And, that was, "Sorry."
The song "She Went Quietly" by Charlie Winston is a hauntingly beautiful ballad about a woman who disappears without any explanation. The song begins with the singer acknowledging that there isn't much to say about her because she lived a seemingly ordinary life. He describes her as a 29-year-old woman who appeared to be doing well for herself. She never talked about feeling sad and was close with her family and friends. However, she vanished one day without leaving any trace.
The singer repeats the phrase "she went quietly" several times throughout the song, conveying a sense of eerie silence and mystery surrounding her disappearance. He describes how she left a note saying "forgetting is easier" and went away without a word of where she was going. Years later, rumors surface about a possible sighting of her in a river's mouth, but the story is brief and inconclusive.
Towards the end of the song, there's a surprising twist. The woman suddenly reappears at the singer's doorstep, old and cold, and apologizes for something. However, she doesn't explain where she has been all these years and declines his invitation to come inside. The song's haunting melody and sparse instrumentation add to the eerie atmosphere, making "She Went Quietly" a powerful and thought-provoking song about the mysteries of life and death.

Still all these years later one of the saddest scenes on Grey’s. I really liked Henry, and the scene when Teddy saw him in the morgue was heart-wrenching. Tear-jerker.😢
