In 2007, Charlie Winston released his self produced debut album “Make Way” and shortly after embarked on tour with Peter Gabriel on European Summer tour.
Charlie also composed music for film (The Day I will Never Forget by Kim Longinotto), theatre (Almeida Theatre, Nottinghill Gate Theatre), dance (Sadler's Wells, Ballet Rambert) and has often appeared in various TV (Top Of The Pops, Good Morning TV, CD UK) and radio shows (The Steve Merchant Show on BBC 6Music, Spanish Radio 3 with Julio Ruiz, BBC Radio with Stephen Foster).
In Charlie Winston's band, the Oxymorons, harmonica plays devil's advocate within moods, from dirty blues riffs to ethereal angelic cries, meanwhile bass, drums and guitar lay the ground rules, only to be broken. To add to it the Extramorons brass quartet puff their way to a sound that’s carnivalesque. There is an overriding positivity throughout every performance that leaves the audience wanting to dance, laugh and cry all in the same breath.

Spiral
Charlie Winston Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like I′ve been here before
Time turns a wheel
On repeat like a vinyl
On a spiral
Yes it does
It does
Through the doors of the past
Now, I've seen things
You won′t believe
Born to chance
So roll the dice
For over your head
Hangs a knives
And laughing is all you can do
Spiral
Hell, I'm in hell
Help me out
Help me now
Kill what you know
Start again
That's your future
On the wheel
Spiralling out of control
Everything all of the time
In the song "Spiral" by Charlie Winston, the lyrics describe a sense of déjà vu and a feeling of being stuck in a cycle. The singer feels as though they have experienced their current situation before, as time seems to repeat itself like a vinyl record on a spiral. The lyrics are introspective, with the singer looking down into the past, suggesting that they have seen things that others may find hard to believe. However, despite the seriousness of the situation, the song encourages the listener to laugh, as it is the only option left when faced with the unpredictable nature of life.
The chorus of the song, "Spiral," reinforces the sense of being out of control. There is a feeling of falling or spiralling, with the singer describing themselves as being in hell. The lyrics become more desperate and urgent, as the singer pleads for help to stop the cycle and start anew. They encourage the listener to kill what they know, suggesting that it is necessary to let go of past knowledge and experiences to break free from the cycle. The song ends with the phrase "everything all of the time," which suggests that the cycle will continue endlessly, leaving the listener with a sense of hopelessness.
