When Throbbing Gristle was terminated in 1981, Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti signed to Rough Trade Records and began recording and performing as Chris & Cosey. From the very start they indulgently utilised electronics, sampling, rhythms and Cosey's distinctive vocals, cornet and guitar style. In 1983 they formed their own offshoot record label Conspiracy International (aka: CTI) for their more experimental recordings and collaborative projects. CTI continues to run alongside their more accessible work.
During the 1980's and 90's Chris & Cosey went on to record some of the most inventive Electronica albums, including the much sampled and remixed TRANCE album (1982), the Techno Pop classic OCTOBER Love Song (1983) and the West Coast and Goa dance floor hit EXOTIKA (1987).
In 1992 after many gruelling tours and for both health and artistic reasons they decided to scale down their live performances and concentrate on studio recordings.
Since their inception they have collaborated with such artists and musical luminaries as Monte Cazazza, Coil, Current 93, John Duncan, Erasure, Eurythmics, Boyd Rice, Robert Wyatt. Their music has also been remixed by Carl Craig, Cosmic Connection, Fred Giannelli, Daniel Miller, µ-Ziq, Vapourspace and Andrew Weatherall.
June 2004 saw the release of CABAL, the debut album under their newly adopted Carter Tutti name.
2003-2004 also saw Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti collaborating once again with Peter Christopherson and Genesis P-Orridge for a regrouping of Throbbing Gristle. This resulted in an album of new TG material and a live performance in London.

Wife beater tee, pretty teeth, yeah, she got 'em
Her body commands your attention
(She keeps it so gutta, man)
Can I take you out? (I'll pay for it)
Girl, I got enough (so we enjoy it)
I'm hoping that your mama don't mind
'Cause girl, I gotta make you mine, yeah
(Ooh) girl, give me a chance, I'ma take it
(Ooh) yeah, I know I'm young but I'll take it
(Ooh) I just gotta know, yeah
Is this love?
'Cause I gotta know
Is this real?
Girl, I gotta know
Is it you taking over my heart?
If it's love
Then all my girls and them
I gotta give them up (it's love)
My playing days is over, I gotta hang it up
I gotta know, I gotta know, yeah
Is this love?
If she gotta man, I don't care 'cause I need her
I got a girl, but if she want, I'ma leave her
She can be the girl that I'm putting on
(We keep it so gutta, man)
(Ooh) I'ma be that nigga that'll change her
(Ooh) make that other dude like a stranger
(Ooh) I just gotta know, tell me
Is this love?
'Cause I gotta know,
Is this real? (Yeah, yeah)
Girl, I gotta know
Is it you taking over my heart? (That's taking my heart)
If it's love (ooh, this love)
Then all my girls and them
I gotta give them up (it's love, oh)
My playing days is over, I gotta hang it up (my playing days is over)
I gotta know, I gotta know, yeah (I gotta know)
Is this love?
I ain't been doing much sleeping, just daydreaming
'Cause she's all up in my head and I can't take it
I ain't never, ever felt like this
(I gotta know) I gotta know
(I gotta know) is this how love really is?
Is this love?
'Cause I gotta know
Is this real? (Yeah, yeah)
Girl, I gotta know (oh)
Is it you taking over my heart? (Is it you girl, taking over me?)
If it's love
And all my girls and them
I gotta give them up (it's love)
My playing days is over, I gotta hang it up
I gotta know, I gotta know, yeah (I gotta know)
Is this love?
'Cause I gotta know
Is this real?
Girl, I gotta know
Is it you taking over my heart?
If it's love
Then all my girls and them
I gotta give them up (it's love)
My playing days is over, I gotta hang it up
I gotta know, I gotta know, yeah
Is this love?
The song "Is This Love?" by Bob Marley was covered by Chris & Cosey, a British band, in their album "Heartbeat" released in 1981. The lyrics of the song talks about a young man who is attracted to a girl and wants to know if what they have is love. He goes on to express his willingness to pay for her, leave his current girlfriend, and change for her. The girl in question seems to have a certain command over her body, which the guy finds alluring, and he can't stop dreaming about her.
The song's lyrics capture the feeling of being in love and the confusion that comes with it. The singer is not sure if what he feels is real love or just infatuation. He seems willing to do anything for the girl he is attracted to, including leaving his current girlfriend, which shows his devotion to the new girl in his life. Chris & Cosey's rendition of the song adds a darker electronic beat to the original song, which enhances the song's themes of love and confusion.
