Are You Ready
Church & State Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Slipping and a-sliding, playing dominoes
Leftin' and a-rightin' ain't a crime, you know
Well, I gotta tell the story before it's time to go

Are you ready for the country?
Are you ready for me?
Are you ready for the country?
Ain't I a sight to see?
Are you ready for the country?
Better get ready for me

Talkin' to the preacher, said God is on your side
A-talkin' to the pushers, they both are sellin' at highs
Well, I gotta tell the story I don't know the reason why

Are you ready for the country?
Are you ready for me?
You better get ready for the country
Ain't I a sight to see?
Are you ready for the country?
Are you ready for me?

My name is Bocephus
And my name's the Chief

Are you ready for the country?
Are you ready to go? (Yeah, are you ready to, ready to go?)
Are you ready for the country?
Get ready to go (You better get ready to show)
Are you ready for the country?
Get ready for me (Hey, Hank, are you ready for me? Whoo!)

(Are you ready for the country?)
Are you ready for the country? Are you ready for me?
Are you ready for me? (Are you ready for the country?)
Are you ready for the country?
Are you ready for the country?

(Are you ready for the country?)
Are you ready for the country? Are you ready for, ready for country?
(Are you ready for the country?)
Are you ready, are you, are you? Are you ready?

Are you ready for me?
Better get ready for me

Overall Meaning

In Church & State's song "Are You Ready," the lyrics touch upon various themes and ideas. It starts off with phrases like "slipping and a-sliding, playing dominoes" and "leftin' and a-rightin'" which can be interpreted as a metaphor for living life freely and without restriction. The lyrics suggest that engaging in unconventional behaviors or lifestyles is not a crime and should be accepted.

The chorus repeats the question "Are you ready for the country?" multiple times, implying a desire for a change or a departure from the current state of affairs. The phrase "Ain't I a sight to see?" can be seen as a challenge or a statement of self-confidence, suggesting that the singer is unique or different in some way.

The lyrics continue by mentioning interactions with both a preacher and drug pushers. The singer claims that God is on their side, perhaps alluding to a rebellious or unconventional interpretation of religious teachings. On the other hand, the encounter with the pushers could represent the singer's engagement with illicit activities or a disregard for societal norms.

The repetition of the question "Are you ready for me?" indicates a determination to be noticed or accepted for who they are. The name dropping of "Bocephus" (a nickname for Hank Williams Jr.) and "the Chief" adds a sense of identity and belonging, emphasizing the singer's importance or presence.

Overall, "Are You Ready" can be understood as a call for acceptance and openness to new ideas, lifestyles, and perspectives. It challenges societal norms and urges listeners to be ready for change.

Daniel had the right idea...worship the One True God no matter the cost...he knew that he knew Yahweh is the only one worthy of our trust and adoration! When it comes to worshipping God in full view and with windows flung wide open?...I’m with Daniel!! No one...absolutely no one!...will ever steal my heart from my Abba Father!

TopherField

Yes but we can learn a lot more than just that from Daniel. He didn't compromise an inch, but he also behaved himself with honour and dignity and never in a way that could have brought dishonour onto the name of God. He obeyed the laws that he COULD obey in good conscience, and treated those in power with respect... whilst disobeying them in the areas where his conscience required it.

NickyW

@TopherField Agreed. Trust me, you’re not the only truth-lover who could preach a long, looong sermon on the inspiring traits and pursuits of Daniel. When the rubber hit the road in the last few years I personally haven’t treated or considered those in power (those lying, corrupt power-mongers) with respect…I’m not remotely ashamed to admit that my anger and bewilderment have spoken much more loudly. It’s a good thing there’s now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus and that His mercies are new every morning, huh?

@TopherField you seem to forget the Labour government actually granted you a 500k business cash injection to start your Go Karting business!!
