1) Cicada (蟬樂團)… Read Full Bio ↴There are multiple artists using the moniker Cicada;
1) Cicada (蟬樂團) is a five-piece neo-classical instrumental band from Taipei, Taiwan. Formed in 2009, the instrumentation consists of violin, cello, piano and acoustic guitar. The band is named after Cicada because "people are aware of cicada's existence by their sound instead of forms".
In 2013, Cicada began to compose for Taiwan. The theme of “Coastland” was the west coastland, and “Light Shining Through the Sea” was inspired by the east coast and the Pacific Ocean. “White Forest” released in 2017 drew inspiration from marine life such as humpback whales, dolphins, coral reefs and sea turtles. Cicada walked into the mountain from the ocean on their 10th year and released the hiking journal “Hiking in the Mist”. In 2022, their focus switched to the valleys and forests. “Seeking the Sources of Streams” comprised moments of roaming the mountains.

The Things You Say
Cicada Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I'll be damned if I'm gonna stick around and take any more of your shit
You'd better screw down that run-around loose tongue of yours, babe
Because it's gonna get you in a whole lot of trouble, the things you say
Sometimes I think you've got no feelings
Sometimes I think you've got no education
The time has come, you'd better think twice now,
I say: do you imagine you can get away with the things you say?
Maybe your momma didn't wash that mouth of yours out, babe
and maybe she never showed you how to treat a lady
But I don't give a sweet thought anymore babe
Because you've gone and got on my last nerve with the things you say
Sometimes I think you've got no feelings
Sometimes I think you've got no education
The time has come you'd better think twice now
and take a look around before I shut you down
The lyrics of Cicada’s “The Things You Say” revolve around a tumultuous relationship where one partner is fed up with the other’s incessant rudeness and lack of empathy. The song is an exploration of how words, particularly when spoken impulsively or recklessly, can be incredibly hurtful and destructive. The use of the phrase “big gob” in the opening line suggests that the partner is particularly verbose and that their words have a significant impact on the singer. The chorus of the song features a repeated question: “do you imagine you can get away with the things you say?” This line is particularly poignant as it suggests that the partner is unconcerned with the consequences of their actions and believes they can say whatever they want without repercussions.
Throughout the song, there is a sense of mounting frustration and anger. The singer describes their partner as lacking in feelings and education, implying that they are ignorant and insensitive. The line “take a look around before I shut you down” suggests that the singer has had enough and is ready to end the relationship if their partner does not change their ways. The final line of the song, “you’ve gone and got on my last nerve with the things you say,” serves as a powerful statement of finality and emphasizes the emotional toll that the partner's words have taken on the singer.
Overall, “The Things You Say” is a powerful reminder of the importance of carefully considering the impact of our words on others. It highlights the potential harm that can be caused by thoughtless remarks and the need for empathy and understanding in all our relationships.

I've been putting up with that big gob of yours way too long, babe
I have tolerated your constant talking for too long, darling
And I'll be damned if I'm gonna stick around and take any more of your shit
I refuse to endure any more of your disrespectful behavior
You'd better screw down that run-around loose tongue of yours, babe
You need to control your tendency to talk irresponsibly, my love
Because it's gonna get you in a whole lot of trouble, the things you say
Your careless words will land you in serious problems if you do not change
Sometimes I think you've got no feelings
At times, I wonder if you lack the capacity to empathize with others
Sometimes I think you've got no education
Occasionally, I ponder if you lack formal knowledge and training
The time has come, you'd better think twice now,
Now is the moment to reconsider your actions
and take a look around before I shut you down
Analyze your surroundings and behavior before I put an end to this relationship
I say: do you imagine you can get away with the things you say?
I ask: do you believe you can continue to speak recklessly without consequences?
Maybe your momma didn't wash that mouth of yours out, babe
Perhaps your mother neglected to discipline your profane language, dear
and maybe she never showed you how to treat a lady
And it is possible that she never taught you how to respect women
But I don't give a sweet thought anymore babe
However, I no longer care about your upbringing or background
Because you've gone and got on my last nerve with the things you say
Your thoughtless expressions have pushed me to my limits
The time has come you'd better think twice now
Now is the moment to reconsider your actions
and take a look around before I shut you down
Analyze your surroundings and behavior before I put an end to this relationship
