1. City Boy was a moderately successful British rock band in the late 1970s, characterised by complex vocal arrangements and heavy guitars. Their most popular songs were 5-7-0-5 and The Day The Earth Caught Fire. Their first five albums were produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange.
In the early 1970's Lol Mason, Steve Broughton, Max Thomas and Chris Dunn were playing folk music in the Birmingham area. They toured the folk clubs of the Midlands until, towards the end of 1975, they decided to try it the professional way. Meanwhile Broughton had begun to write quite impressive songs. They were offered a recording contract by Phonogram Records on condition that they add drums and electric guitar. This prompted them to recruit Roger Kent and Mike Slamer.
Their first albums failed to impress the audience, although some critics gave quite favourable reviews to City Boy (1975) and Dinner At The Ritz (1976). It was not until 1978, and their hit song 5-7-0-5, and the subsequent album Book Early, that the public realised their potential. The single reached the Top 10 of the British charts and the album scratched the Top 30 of the UK Albums Chart.
They were not really able to repeat their success with their 1979 album, The Day The Earth Caught Fire, and its title song as a single release. After that, Dunn and Broughton left the band, but they had one more mildly successful album with Heads Are Rolling in 1980. Many critics believe this one to be their best, but then their record deal expired. In 1981 one last record, It's Personal, failed to attract any attention, and was only released in Scandinavia. In 1982, the band split up.
The first four of City Boy's albums were on the Vertigo label in Europe and Mercury in the US and Canada. They signed a new record contract with Atlantic Records for the US and Canada commencing with the release of "The Day The Earth Caught Fire"

She's Got Style
City Boy Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's been a lot of talk about you momma
About your shady, entertaining ways
How late at night, providing bedside drama
Is helping you to sleep more in the day.
Think of the shame, you'll never get to heaven
Although it's heaven here right by your side
Help me forget how much I love my wife.
CHORUS
She's got style, blowing me hot then cold.
She's got style, dress falling off her shoulder, like a child,
Making me drop my guard as ooh, ooh, she closing the door
She's got style, she getting rich in sin,
She's got style, she gonna take us all, a certain smile,
Recling with Garbo's eyes as ooh, ooh,
Why she leaving me asking for more?
And as I leave there's one more in the doorway,
He hangs his coat as you relieve him of his hat,
So for an hour you'll swear to love him always (always)
While you're leaving me with my feet scraping the mat.
CHORUS
She' s got style, blowing me hot then cold
She's got style, dress falling off her shoulder like a child,
Making me drop my guard as ooh, ooh, she closing the door
She's got style, she getting rich in sin,
She's got style, she gonna take us all, a certain smile,
Recling with Garbo's eyes as ooh, ooh, she's got style, etc
The lyrics of City Boy's "She's Got Style" paint a picture of a woman who leads a promiscuous lifestyle, causing rumors and whispers among those around her. Despite the shame and loss of morality that comes with her actions, the singer recognizes her cunning nature and the way she draws him in with her seductive charm. He is aware of the danger that comes with her, but he still can't seem to resist her. The repetition of "she's got style" in the chorus further emphasizes her captivating persona and how it's her style that mesmerizes him.
The line "Your little ways so devious and clever, help me forget how much I love my wife" suggests that the singer is aware of the immorality of his actions and therefore feels guilty about it. However, he is stuck in a dilemma where he's unable to resist the woman's charm and is willing to overlook his guilt for a moment of pleasure. The chorus further emphasizes how the woman's actions are causing him to drop his guard and become more vulnerable to her.
Overall, "She's Got Style" portrays the struggles of a man caught in a web of temptation and lust, highlighting how the seductive nature of another person may be too tempting to resist.
