With his backing group The Shadows, he dominated the British popular music scene in the late 1950s and early 1960s, before and during the The Beatles' first year in the charts. A conversion to Christianity and subsequent softening of his music led to his having more of a pop than rock image. Although never able to achieve the same impact in the United States as in Britain (in spite of several chart hits there), Richard has remained a popular music, film, and television personality in the UK and also retains a following in several other countries.
During the last six decades, Cliff Richard has charted many hit singles, and holds the record (along with Elvis Presley) as the only act to make the UK singles charts in all of its active decades (1950s–2000s). According to his website, he has sold 250 million records over the course of his career. In the British charts alone, Richard has had more than 150 singles, albums and EPs make the top 20.

Pickin' up those dainty little feet
Who's the one that catches my eye
Everytime she passes by - gee whizz it's you
Ever since we said goodbye, all because of a little white lie,
Let me tell you why we parted, let me tell you what my heart says,
Gee whizz it's you, you're the one who can't be true
Little darlin' won't you hear my plea
Won't you please come back to me,
We can pick up where we started, listen now to what my heart says,
Ummmm - gee whizz it's you...
Gee whizz it's you, you're the one that's makin' me blue
Gee whizz it's you, you're the one who can't be true
Little darlin' won't you hear my plea
Won't you please come back to me,
We can pick up where we started, listen now to what my heart says,
Ummmm - gee whizz it's you...
Gee whizz it's you
Gee whizz it's you
The song "Gee Whiz It's You" by Cliff Richard & the Shadows tells the story of a man who is still in love with a woman who left him because of a lie. He describes the woman with admiration - noticing how she walks and how she catches his eye every time she passes by. However, in the chorus, he expresses his sadness and heartbreak, blaming the woman for making him feel blue and accusing her of being unfaithful. He pleads with her to come back to him, promising to pick up where they left off. The song ends with repetition of the title phrase, "Gee Whiz It's You," emphasizing the man's enduring love for the woman.
The lyrics of the song are straightforward but convey a relatable message of lost love and longing for reconciliation. The melody and the upbeat tempo, typical of the Rock and Roll genre, contrast with the sad lyrics, underscoring the emotional depth of the message.
