The Rocket
Clouds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Nightmare visions fill my head
I seek smooth things, let me be lead
What lies up beyond the moon
Man of a lie will I see you soon?
I know what to do and it won't be hard
Gotta build a rocketship in my own backyard

There's a place hidden in night
I will see the light

The only sound is nothingness
Teacher of right hear my request
That God himself will be revealed
I ask for grace and to be healed
I know what to do and it won't be hard
Gotta build a rocketship in my own backyard

A breath of air on a still day
Touches me and leaves me warm
A whisper of sound behind me
Spins me around there's no-one there
You surround me invisibly

I feel your presence with my skin
I dreamt of you last night

Overall Meaning

The song "The Rocket" by Clouds is a thought-provoking and introspective piece that explores the singer's desire to escape from the chaos and confusion of the world around them. The opening lines, "Nightmare visions fill my head, I seek smooth things, let me be lead," reveal the singer's inner turmoil and their search for something that will ease their troubled mind. The line "What lies up beyond the moon, man of a lie will I see you soon" suggests a fear of the unknown and the possibility of encountering deception or falsehood in their quest for understanding.

Despite these fears, the singer is determined to take action and find their own way towards clarity and enlightenment. They declare "I know what to do and it won't be hard, gotta build a rocketship in my own backyard," indicating a belief in their own ability to create their own path and overcome any obstacles that come their way. The repeated refrain of "There's a place hidden in night, I will see the light" further emphasizes their optimism and conviction that they will eventually find the answers they are seeking.

The final lines of the song introduce a new element, with the singer experiencing a sense of connection to a spiritual presence that they cannot see or fully understand. This adds an additional layer of complexity to the singer's journey, suggesting that their quest for understanding may involve reconciling the physical and spiritual aspects of their being.

Overall, "The Rocket" is a richly layered song that invites contemplation and reflection on the nature of human existence and the search for meaning in an often bewildering world.

Hey guys, please don't included royalty free content in songs and then copyright those songs. It's a huge headache for anyone else who then purchases the same royalty free content. I appreciate the copyright system is a mess, but its kinda ridiculous that both Warner AND Universal are claiming copyright infringement on a short video I made for film school because I used the same royalty free "thunder and rain" sound clip that you folks included in your song. I purchased the exact same royalty free sound effect as part of a audio effects library for the explicit reason of avoiding such infringements. I also double checked with my school and they have the same CD and is quite old apparently. In a nutshell by including that same royalty free recording AND THE FULL LENGTH of the audio effect track at the tail end of your song, you have added no value to your music and have only lined the studio's pockets with more gold. Its great to be inspired by other music or sounds, but there is absolutely no need to include your inspiration in a copyrighted product - especially from a royalty free source! Thanks

The album was released in 1993, so it's good to know for future reference, but a bit late. You're right, the current copyright laws are the source of the problem.
And personally I really liked the full length effect and thought it was worthwhile.
