I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles
Cockney Rejects Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air,
They fly so high, nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams they fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.

I'm dreaming dreams, I'm scheming schemes,
I'm building castles high.
They're born anew, their days are few,
Just like a sweet butterfly.
And as the daylight is dawning,
They come again in the morning!

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air,
They fly so high, nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams they fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,
I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.

When shadows creep, when I'm asleep,
To lands of hope I stray!
Then at daybreak, when I awake,
My bluebird flutters away.
Happiness, you seem so near me,
Happiness, come forth and cheer me!

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air,
They fly so high, nearly reach the sky,
Then like my dreams they fade and die.
Fortune's always hiding,
I've looked everywhere,

I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air.

Overall Meaning

"I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" is a song that dates back to 1918 and became a popular anthem for the West Ham United football (soccer) club in the 1920s. The song later gained popularity in other British football clubs and was even mentioned in the 1979 British film "Quadrophenia."

The lyrics of the song suggest a sense of yearning for hopes and dreams that might not come true. The bubbles that are blown represent these hopes, but they eventually burst and fade away, much like the singer's dreams. The song's title and recurring lyrics also serve as a metaphor for the transience and fragility of life.

When the singer is asleep, he travels to a land of hope, but when he awakes, his "bluebird" flutters away. The bluebird is a symbol of happiness that is just out of his grasp. The lyrics suggest that the singer is always searching for happiness but never quite finds it.

The song has a melancholic tone that speaks to the idea that life is fleeting and unpredictable. The lyrics also suggest that the things that we hope and dream for might not materialize. It's a powerful message that has resonated with many people over the years.

@dean goldenberg Hi man, I'm half Italian half Palestinian, my maternal grandparents were born in Haifa during the British Mandate, but ended up in Syria in 1948. Me ma was born in Damascus. I actually like Israel, I worked for the UN in Beit Hanina, East J'lem, but as soon as I finished working I took the bus every day to damascus gate, then would would walk or take the tram to near Haifa Street and go get drunk and stoned listening to that awesome psytrance you make in Israel. I was treated fairly, even when I told the Israelis I met that I was half a Pal, obviously they wouldn't have known if I didn't tell them as my dad is Italian so I have an Italian name and my mother is whiter than the average southern Italian, so I look normal Italian.

Some of the best weed I ever smoked was in Israel, grown in a kibbutz. The guy who made it had been in India for two years and brought back seeds from Northern India. He used to grow that and a hybrid with a local strain, which are also indica, similar to Lebanese strains. The hybrid was the best, two indicas, one from the mountains of northern India the other from the Levant, the ultimate indica.

I wanted to bring back seeds of that strain, but since on arrival I had spent from 23;30 to 4:30 am in interrogation at Ben Gurion, I thought best not to bring them.

Anyway peace. I had to post after seeing all these assholes acting like tough guys online.
