Adrenaline
Colliding With Mars Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do you ever think about ghosts
Cause I've been thinking about suicide a lot more than I used to
Would you feel the adrenaline
If you read that I died

I can't take these photographs
Or find the strength to hold your hand
And I don't want to lose a friend
But I can't help but push you away

And you can find me by myself
Cause I don't feel alive
I think I need an angel or some pesticide
I'm by myself
You don't have to tell me twice
To get my act together or I can say goodbye

ごめん話がしたい
Gomen hanashi ga shitai
(I want to talk, sorry)

And the crowd goes wild
When I make them worried sick
Tears streaming down her face
With her jaw dropped open
Phone falling onto the ground
Glass breaking glass breaking
Would you consider this
That I'm not coming back

I can't take these photographs
Or find the strength to hold your hand
And I don't want to lose a friend
But I can't help but push you away

And you can find me by myself
Cause I don't feel alive
I think I need an angel or some pesticide
I'm by myself

You don't have to tell me twice
To get my act together or I can say goodbye

Overall Meaning

In the first verse of "Adrenaline", the songwriter questions the meaning of death through the lens of suicide. The lines, "Cause I've been thinking about suicide a lot more than I used to" and "And I don't want to lose a friend but I can't help but push you away" indicate a deep melancholy that has taken over. The artist thinks that nobody would feel the "adrenaline" if he died except himself. The artist acknowledges the presence of something that is holding them back – a weight that stops them from taking photographs or grabbing hold of supportive hands. This weight, the negative energy that clouds over the mind till their only relief is death, the lyrics assert, is the reason for the distance between the artist and friends.

In the second verse, the artist's mental instability has reached the point where they imagine the reaction to their demise. They can see the tears and jaw-dropping expressions of those they have left behind. In the Japanese language part, the artist wants to communicate with somebody, likely a friend, that they want to talk. This is the plea of somebody who has reached their limit and wants to cling to hope in any form that it appears. The reference to adrenaline here is a metaphor for making people care. The line "to get my act together, or I can say goodbye" emphasizes the urgency of the situation. The songwriter acknowledges that they need something to keep them going, an "angel" or "some pesticide", indicating that they need either an intervention or some chemical reaction to help.
