IDOL
Condition K Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's a place where you become me
(sell your life)
Its a place where I become you
(sell your life)
Darkness fills a silver spoon
(sell your life)
Its the needle and the damage proved
(sell your life)

Where did all the pretty ones
Go below the wound
I fear

Its all these things we should not
(sell your life)
Its all these things we could not
(sell your life)
Believe in something more
(sell your life)
And follow into nothing
(sell your life)

Where did all the pretty ones
Go below the wound
I fear

And all the things you fought to save

Don't lose yourself in your fate again
Its all these things you drive it down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Condition K's song "Idol" seem to be a commentary on the cost of fame and the pressures of the entertainment industry. The lines "sell your life" suggest that those who aspire to be famous must sacrifice a part of themselves in order to achieve success, as if they are selling themselves to the industry. The repetition of the phrase "where did all the pretty ones go below the wound" further emphasizes the darker side of fame and the potential sacrifices that must be made.

The lines "believe in something more" and "follow into nothing" suggest a sense of disillusionment with the industry and the empty promises it may offer. The line "its all these things we should not" implies a sense of regret or a recognition that some choices may not have been the right ones. Overall, the song seems to be a cautionary tale about the cost of chasing fame and the need to hold onto one's true self in the face of external pressures.

Yoongi from BTS also suffers from social anxiety and he as well works hard to it not get to hi

As someone who also deals with anxiety and hates crowds and public speaking relate so much with them and am so proud of them for being in an industry were it is constant crowds and lights and people and cameras in your face. I could never

I didn't know that about Hannie. He is so damn chaotic and extra and full of live and energy even in public that I never thought he had that.

Speaks volumes about what an amazing and strong person he is and I'm so proud of him

As also an introvert myself I feel him 10000000000 % I also spent my day in bed watching YouTube and don't like to move much

Oh damn, I didn't know Moonbyul had congenital mirror syndrome! It's also called Mirror movement disorder. I have it as well and It's a bit dramatic in this video. It's not a habit as the video states, you cannot control it.

For me, it's entirely in my arms/hands. Whatever I do with one hand, the other automatically tries to follow. Say you use your right hand a lot for something and after it's sore, your left hand might also be sore even if you never used it. In my case most of the time, If I try to correct it and not let my left hand follow, my right hand will lose all its strength until I let my left hand follow. If the movement is strong enough, I'll feel the same muscles moving in the arm I'm not using. If I pick up something heavy with one hand, my other hand will curl up. I cannot relax it. It was a little worse when I was younger. Using pencils/pens would cause my left hand to twitch a lot more noticeably than today.

It's hereditary, very rare, it can be mild to extreme and sometimes people can have it in their feet. All is it is crossed nerves. It can be really irritating to experience while dancing especially when it's moves like the chorus of "Next Level" by Aespa, which is actually really hard for me to do but other than that, I have no issue dancing. It's a lot stronger when I use my left hand compared to my right.

I show people, who don't believe me that I can move the tendons in one hand by just flexing the other.

I also have anemia which can easily be taken care of with iron supplements.

Fantasy

I want to preface this with I love your videos, and I've been watching for a while. However, this video does not sit quite right with me. I do mean to be constructive in my criticism, and I do not intend for this to be hateful or harmful, so I apologize in advance if it seems that way.

As someone who has chronic pain, I admire these idols for speaking up about their struggles, but I do think this video could have been handled differently. While these are some serious conditions, for people with chronic health issues, it's our life. I personally feel like this video put these idols on a higher pedestal for functioning in the k-pop industry with these conditions than they already were. It feels very... disingenuine to me.

A lot of people who are disabled or live with chronic conditions already get put on a pedestal for living their day-to-day lives like nothing is different, and we have to live like nothing is different because that's how our society works, at least in the US. In terms of the more "positive" people, they look at us and call us heroes, when we're not; we're just people.

I know this video was just meant to inform your audience that these idols have medical conditions that affect their daily life, but several comments were out of place, but one stands out in particular. At 6:42 while speaking on Lay, you say: "who would have thought that one of the hottest men ever suffers from a very dangerous medical condition". While hemophilia is a very severe and dangerous condition, starting the section on this by talking about his looks is something that does not sit right with me personally, and I feel your coverage of the condition could have been improved by removing the joke about how his group members must freak out if he decides to cook some vegetables. I personally feel like that joke infantilizes him a bit, as though you're saying that Lay cannot cut vegetables because of his condition due to the risk.

Another comment that stood out to me was at 8:27 while speaking about Choi Yoojung, "imagine being so young, and experiencing constant pain while dancing, performing, practicing, or simply going through your day-to-day life." That is my life. I'm 21, and I have HEDS, a hypermobility disorder that causes dislocations, joint pain, as well as other symptoms. I was diagnosed when I was 20, the pain started when I was in my teens. This is my day-to-day life. Just being made aware that someone in the hyper-competitive k-pop industry can be successful with some of the issues I have is something that brought me joy, but something about this comment feels like sensationalizing it.

Thank you for bringing light to these issues, but I think this video would have been better had you just explained what the idol has, as well as their history with the condition. The comments about the idols themselves takes away from the seriousness of these issues in my opinion, and I also feel you may have sensationalized it. It also may alienate more of your followers who may have these conditions and hear comments like these often, among other more hurtful comments that are often received. Your coverage of these conditions may help make your followers more aware of these issues, but it may not normalize it as you hype these idols up so much for dealing with these daily. It's their life, they can't change their conditions, and bringing awareness to the conditions is good, but this is slight sensationalism combined with further idolization.

Please do not take these comments personally, I think that just bringing awareness to these conditions is a good thing, especially with the audience you have. Many people are not aware these conditions even exist. Thank you for speaking on this, as it allowed me to discover an idol with the same symptoms I have, and that brought me hope for what I can do.

I did wonder about that when I first saw him. You don't really encounter idols that don't have hair. I can't even imagine how much of a struggle that must be.

IZONEs Yena was actually diagnosed with Lymphoma which is a malignant form of cancer, when she was a child. Her parents were told that they would lose her if they didn't get treatment, so they went to the streets to sell kimbap to make money for the treatment. Now she is healthy and one of the most successful and talented idols out there and we're so happy for her!!

Most of the mentioned “disease” isn’t as life threatening as you portrayed it to be. They can still live a normal life with proper medical care.
