They consist of Jake Mason, Ivan Khatchoyan and Lance Ferguson (The Bamboos), a three piece powerhouse who serve up the rawest in deep funk, jazz, boogaloo and soul. Led by a wailing Hammond Organ, they are distinctly different to many other funk acts, yet you’ll be no stranger to the grooves and pounding drums .
After a number of Melbourne residencies and a self released 7”, the group came to local prominence with the ‘Cressy St Breakdown’ 12” released on Knowfoowl thru USA’s Groove Distribution. This was followed by the re-release of ‘Gravel Rash’ through UK’s Freestyle label and then a follow up 7” ‘Keb’s Bucket’ (an ode to the Scottish DJ’s legendary pee bucket he needs when he plays for many hours). The group have continued to play across Sydney and Melbourne over the last 12 months, with highlight gigs including the support for Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings '06 Sydney show, support for Breakestra’s Music Man Miles DJ show in Melbourne and a mammoth 3 gigs in under 24 hours over the '07 ANZAC day holiday in Sydney.
Cookin’ On 3 Burners are Australia’s foremost organ trio – joining the dots between funk, soul, boogaloo & jazz. Long time partners Lance Ferguson (guitar), Ivan Khatchoyan (drums) and Jake Mason (organ) have taken their home brew of soulful Hammond get down everywhere from national jazz festivals to after hours bars and clubs. With their releases receiving acclaim from international DJs, jazz critics and fans alike, and collaborating with the likes of Kylie Auldist, Cookin’ On 3 Burners continue to deliver upfront musical dishes with a down home flavour… fresh sounds to make you shake your peas and gravy.

But keep the change 'cause I've got enough
A little time and some tenderness
You'll never buy my love
No other thing that's as precious to
No other! There's no other!
And a heart that's real and a heart that's true
Wooh!
Take my hand
Or take over
Take my hand you
Or take over
Take my hand you
Or take over
Take my hand
Or take over
These presents don't really come for free
Your paychecks don't mean that much to me
Just take my hand and hold me tight
You'll never buy my love!
You buy me this and you buy me that
To win over! Win me over!
You got me wrong and that's a fact
Somethin' that you've got to notice
Will you realize when I'm gone
That I dance to a different song
Will you realize when I'm gone
That I dance to a different song
It's a shame but I've got to go
Wooh!
Take my hand
Or take over
Take my hand you
Or take over
Take my hand you
Or take over
Take my hand
Or take over
The song "This Girl" by Cookin' On 3 Burners featuring Kylie Auldist is all about love and relationships, and how true love cannot be bought with money or material possessions. The opening lines "Money rains from the sky above, but keep the change 'cause I've got enough" suggest that the singer is financially secure and not impressed by money or gifts. The line "You'll never buy my love" emphasizes that true love cannot be purchased and that it is a feeling that comes from within. The chorus "No other thing that's as precious to, No other! There's no other! And a heart that's real and a heart that's true, Somethin' that you've got to know this girl" emphasizes the importance of love and the value of a genuine, honest heart.
The following lines explain how the singer feels about material possessions and expensive gifts. They suggest that these things don't really matter, and that the only thing that truly matters is the love and affection that they receive from their partner. The lines "These presents don't really come for free, Your paychecks don't mean that much to me, Just take my hand and hold me tight, You'll never buy my love!" emphasize this sentiment. The rest of the song talks about how the singer is different from other girls, and how their partner needs to understand and accept who they are in order to truly love them.
