Can't Take It
Cosmonaut Radio Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Yes, I want to be the first thing that you think of
Yes, I want to be the best at everything I do, love
And you can say I do it all for the attention
And I'd reply, "Oh, babe. There's so much more that I could mention."

Blessed or cursed
I'm the center of my universe
In the grand scheme it won't mean a thing
So i'm giving all that I can bring
'Cause you can't take it with you
You can't take it with you

I forgive you if you think I'm self-invested
But I'll also let you know that I'm not interested
'Cause that's the way it goes: you only get one shot
And that's why everybody ought to give it all that they've got

Blessed or cursed
I'm the center of my universe
In the grand scheme it won't mean a thing
So i'm giving all that I can bring
'Cause you can't take it with you
You can't take it with you

'Cause you can't take it with you
On the long road ahead
'Cause you know
You've always known
That you either end up a star or dead

Blessed or cursed
I'm the center of my universe
In the grand scheme it won't mean a thing
So i'm giving all that I can bring

'Cause you can't take it with you
You can't take it with you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song "Can't Take It" by Cosmonaut Radio delve into themes of ambition, self-awareness, and the fleeting nature of life. The singer expresses their desire to be the best at all they do, wanting to be the first thought in someone's mind. However, there is a deeper motivation beyond just seeking attention, as hinted at in the line "There's so much more that I could mention." This suggests that there is a complexity to their drive that goes beyond mere ego.

The chorus of the song addresses the dichotomy of feeling both blessed and cursed to be the center of their own universe. This internal conflict is further explored as the singer reflects on the transient nature of life and the realization that material possessions and achievements ultimately hold little significance in the grand scheme of things. Despite this, they are determined to give their all in whatever they do, recognizing that in the end, you can't take any of it with you.

The lyrics also touch upon the notion of self-interest and the importance of seizing opportunities in the limited time we have. The singer acknowledges the perception that they may be perceived as self-invested but is unapologetic about their focus and drive. They emphasize the idea that everyone should make the most of their one shot at life and give it their all, regardless of how others may perceive them.

The final verse of the song encapsulates the idea that no matter how much one may accumulate or achieve in life, none of it can be taken along on the journey ahead. The contrasting imagery of ending up as a star or dead symbolizes the ultimate fate we all face, highlighting the imperative to make the most of one's existence and leave a meaningful impact. Overall, "Can't Take It" encourages introspection, self-realization, and a sense of urgency in living life to the fullest despite its impermanence.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way but this is a terrible way to record a live performance.

@CosmonautRadio

It's cool. Do you have any suggestions for better live recordings?

@LRBeforeTheInternet

I'm sorry, but i'm not an FOH engineer and my experience with recording live performances is rather limited. If i were to suggest anything it would be to ask an actual professional or look up the many online tutorials that help with this sort of thing.
