It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd meet somebody like you
I never dreamed that I knew somebody like you
No, I don't wanna fall in love
No, I don't wanna fall in love
...With you...with you
What a wicked game you played
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you
No, I don't wanna fall in love
No, I don't wanna fall in love
...With you...with you
The world was on fire and no one could save me but you
It's strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I'd love somebody like you
I never dreamed that I knew somebody like you
No, I don't wanna fall in love
No, I don't wanna fall in love
...With you...with you
Nobody loves no one
The overall theme of Crossbreed's song "Wicked Game" is about the complicated nature of desire and love. The world is burning around the singer, and they feel powerless to stop it. However, they find solace in the arms of someone they desire. The singer never thought they would meet someone like the person they're addressing in the song. The desire that the singer feels for that person is strange, but they're not sure whether they want to fall in love with them. Meanwhile, the person they're addressing is playing a wicked game by making the singer feel this way, making them dream and desire them more than anyone else. The singer realizes that the other person never felt the
Moreover, the song 'Wicked Game' is a cover of Chris Isaak’s 1989 hit song of the same title, which was also included in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart. Crossbreed's version adds heavy rock elements and screams to the original melody. In addition, the song was included on the soundtrack for the 2002 action movie "Bad Company" and also appeared on the video game Need for Speed: Underground 2. The song was also used in the serial ‘Beauty and The Beast (2013) season 2 when Catherine and Vincent overhear the song playing next door, in the final episode. The song is famous and used for many TV shows, such as American Horror Story, Smallville, and many more.
The lead singer of Crossbreed, James Rietz, explained in an interview that the song has a personal meaning to him. He said that the theme of the song, the back-and-forth nature of love and desire, is something he has struggled with in his own life. The line "No one could save me but you" refers to his own experience with addiction, where he didn't feel like anyone could save him except for someone he was in love with.
The chords of the song are Em, Am, B7, C, D, B, A.
