But I ran for Your presence; I fled from Your face

I slept my troubles away but you were there
When I tried to ignore my problems by sleeping, you were still there with me.

You called me to reach the least of them
You asked me to help those in need, the least important people in society.

Yet I go and flee, sinking in a sea of sin
But I ran away and found myself drowning in a sea of my own wrongdoing.

Let it sink in, you are Him who's holy and infinite
I need to realize that you are the ultimate source of holiness and infinity.

Unrighteousness is a stench to your very element
Sin is an unbearable smell to your perfect essence.

In the waters the distance between us was clearly evident
As I struggled in the water, I realized how far apart we truly were.

Drenched and hell bent, I cried out for a Savior who's heaven sent
Soaked and determined to sin, I cried out for a savior sent from heaven.

I went through the ocean moving with the tides
I moved through life like the ocean's tides, going with the flow.

The descent so deep I couldn't behold your eyes
I sank so low that I couldn't even see your eyes, God.

God, I was hungry for control so my pride ate lies
I wanted to control my life so badly that I believed in and acted on falsehoods.

Lord I need your console; save my soul before I... die....
God I need your comfort, save me before it's too late and I die.

I know that Your face is radiant!
I know that your face, God, shines with radiant beauty.

I know that in Your presence there is exuberance
I know that being in your presence brings pure joy and excitement.

I know that at Your right hand are pleasures infinite
I know that you provide infinite pleasures for those who follow you, God.

But I have turned my face from You
But I have turned away from you, God.

for a glimpse of darkness where light doesn't live?
Why did I turn to the darkness where no light exists?

Turn to me and be kind as you do for those you love
Please, God, turn towards me and show me the same love you have for others.

I'm severely afflicted; give me life according to your word!
I am in severe pain; please give me life and healing according to your word.

As psalms poured out of me, something magnificent took hold
As I poured out my emotions in song, something wonderful happened to me, God.

You drew me out of these waters, and your goodness swallowed me whole!
You pulled me out of the water, and your goodness completely enveloped me, God.

Death confronted me in my wickedness as I feared the cost
I faced the possibility of death because of my own wrongdoing, and it frightened me.

But the very same God I offended extended his arms
But instead of punishing me, the God I had wronged forgave me and reached out to me.

Your grace has reached farther than any human heart could fathom
Your mercy has gone beyond what any human heart could understand, God.

As the shore hit the waves, so I was surely struck by your compassion
Your compassion hit me like the waves of the ocean hitting the shore, God.

You answered in my repentance; from your throne you heard me
When I repented, you answered me and heard me from your throne, God.

Yahweh, you chose to forgive because your heart is full of mercy.
God, you forgave me because you have a heart full of mercy.

Let it sink in
Let the true meaning of what has happened to me sink in, God.
