This is one of the greatest live performances ever recorded. Full props to the band of course but, the real hero here is whoever the sound engineer was that set this up. In 1972, it was very, very difficult to fully replicate a band’s studio sound. Some bands embraced that lack of replication and used it to full effect. But here? The Hollies sound absolutely as good as they do on the studio recording…just a stunning audio achievement!

1969 was a year with a lot of changes for me. My father had died in 1961 and my mother remarried in 1969. We left the farm and moved to the city. I had already started growing my hair out and continued to do so. Bought my clothes from the Army-Navy store and started working with a band as their roadie and truck driver. I didn’t have my license yet, I wasn’t old enough but I did it anyway. Loved the music from that time.

I had this single on a 45 rpm record back in '72 when I was just 8 years old, and I played it so much, I drove my parents insane. I used to get totally unhinged when I threw this on the stereo. Shakin' my head all around, playin' air guitar, jumpin' off the sofa like a wildman. Then I got my hands on Sweet's "Ballroom Blitz" a couple years later, and that's when things really went South. 😂

Almost 50 yrs ago I was babysitting 2 precious little kids, and we put this record on the record player and the little girl, 5, said that's my mommy in a black dress and that's my daddy singing this! So sweet. Have never forgotten that. Hollies are still rocking in my house after all these years!!
