Be A Man
DJ Satomi Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't expect that you could understand
I feel the infinity inside of me
The sense to be a man is in the future
Time's not enough to be a man
I don't expect that you could understand
I know what will come, what will come
One day the earth will rise and show the depths
So I'll begin to fall into the dark
The moment that I start to see the light
The song Be a Man by DJ Satomi, is a song that delves into the idea of being a man, and the pressure that men constantly face to prove their worth. The opening lines “Time’s not enough to be a man, I don’t expect that you could understand” suggests the lyrical persona’s belief that the audience may not understand the immense burden that comes with being a man. The singer acknowledges the internal struggle that they face - the sense to be a man is in the future, but time isn’t enough.
The infinity that the singer feels inside of them may represent the limitless abilities or potential that they feel, but they still feel constrained by society's expectations, as the pressure to be a man is constantly in the back of their mind. The second verse seems to suggest that the singer is hiding something they regret and is envious of Earth's ability to rise and reveal depths that are hidden beneath the surface. However, the singer can't let go of their regrets, and instead, they fall into the darkness, as they start to see the light. Here, the light suggests the truthful revelation, that being a man is about being honest and not hiding away from one's mistakes.
Overall, Be a Man by DJ Satomi, talks about the societal pressure that men face to prove their worth and to be tough, but the song highlights the importance of being honest and acknowledging one's flaws, even though it can be difficult.
