Damien Dempsey Featuring Sinead O'Connor Lyrics

On the bag, not the skag
The negativity, yeah, pushed onto young paddy, yeah
Is a shame, whose to blame?
And when the baby cries, yeah, she has been criticised, yeah
Been put down, it's passed down
But it's all good, it's all good
It's all good, sure it's all good
All I say to you today
And positivity, yeah, it is the way for me, yeah
It is truth, it is youth
They try to keep us down, yeah
They hide the high kings crown, yeah
From the Gaels, Kathleen wails
And to survive their sting, yeah
You have to be the king, yeah
Grasp the wealth of yourself
Love yourself today, ok, ok
Love yourself today, ok, ok
In Damien Dempsey's song "It's All Good", he expresses his anger towards the negativity that is pushed onto young people, particularly young Paddy. This negativity is then passed down to future generations, causing criticism and hurt towards those who are vulnerable, such as a crying baby. Despite all of this, Dempsey finds hope in positivity and encourages listeners to love themselves, as that is the key to surviving life's struggles.
In the first verse, Dempsey acknowledges that he is an angry man but vents his frustrations without turning to drugs (skag) to cope. He recognizes that the negativity that young Paddy is exposed to is a shame, and questions who is to blame for this harm. In the second verse, he emphasizes the importance of positivity and how it is the way forward, especially for the youth who are often limited by those who try to keep them down. Dempsey highlights how the high kings crown is hidden from the Gaels, a metaphor for how historical truths have been concealed from the Irish people. Despite this, Dempsey finds hope in self-discovery and encourages self-love as a way to overcome the challenges of life.
Overall, "It's All Good" by Damien Dempsey is a message of hope and self-love in the midst of struggles and negativity. He encourages listeners to break the cycle of passing down hurtful behavior and instead find strength in positivity and self-discovery.
