A Moment Of Silence
Dan P. Lyrics

A moment of silence, please
For those that never get the chance
They show up to the party
But they're never asked to dance
The losers, the liars, the bastards, the thieves
The cynicists, the pessimists
And those that don't believe in nothing
I never met a loser
That I didn't see eye to eye with
I declare
I stare into your eyes
You look right past me into the air
What's it like
To stand in your shoes?
To have never felt the belt
Of somebody's abuse?
So, I take the bottle
Tip it to all my heroes that have passed
Alas, you have left us
But your stories they will last
Uninspired
By the recruiting call
Independent we stand
Independent we fall

So tell me:
How long do you think
You can go before you lose it all?
Before they call you bluff and watch you fall?
I don't know
But I'd like to think I had control
At some point
But I let it go and I lost my soul
Sit tight
But the revolution's years away
I'm losing faith
I'm running low on things to say
So I guess I have no choice but to regurgitate
The tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite
Oh! To have died that night
I realized it wouldn't last!
Days were numbered
And the reaper tipped the hourglass
Final mayday of our sinking ship has come and passed
Oh! To the west
You don't know what it is you're running from
And everybody's laughing loud
Your last chance to make your mother and your father proud

A moment of silence, please
For those that never get the chance
They show up to the party
But they're never asked to dance
The losers, the liars, the bastards, the thieves
The cynicists, the pessimists
And those that don't believe in nothing

They said: "A pox
Upon your house, upon your family
And everyone you ever knew
And everyone you'll ever meet"
I bet they think we wish we joined when we could
But we do what we want
We don't do what we should
Everybody's laughing
'Cause they're thinking they're in on something I don't get
Don't forget
I connect and I heard every word you said
Like a child
Who believes he was wronged
If you hate me so much
Then stop singing my songs

So tell me:
How long do you think
You can go before you lose it all?
Before they call you bluff and watch you fall?
I don't know
But I'd like to think I had control
At some point
But I let it go and I lost my soul
Sit tight
But the revolution's years away
I'm losing faith
I'm running low on things to say
So I guess I have no choice but to regurgitate
The tired anthem of a loser and a hypocrite
Oh! To have died that night
I realized it wouldn't last!
Days were numbered
And the reaper tipped the hourglass
Final mayday of our sinking ship has come and passed
Oh! To the west
You don't know what it is you're running from

And everybody's laughing loud
Your last chance to make your mother and your father proud

Overall Meaning

In "A Moment Of Silence," Dan P. begins by requesting a moment of silence for those who are excluded by society. He then lists off a series of people who are frequently seen as outcasts: "The losers, the liars, the bastards, the thieves, the cynics, the pessimists, and those that don't believe in nothing." The singer declares that he can identify with the outcasts, seeing himself in the company of "losers" while also acknowledging the pain that many of them have experienced. The second verse focuses more on the singer's personal struggles, describing an internal battle with control and loss of soul. He also critiques those who mock him, suggesting that they do not understand his perspective.

The chorus returns to the opening focus on those excluded by society, again emphasizing that many people are never given a chance to succeed. The song concludes with a sense of nihilism, reflecting that "days were numbered" and the "reaper tipped the hourglass," suggesting the inevitability of death. Despite this bleak outlook, the final lines suggest that the singer still wishes to make a meaningful impact, even if he is uncertain how to do so: "Your last chance to make your mother and your father proud."

This is so... good. I didn't realize someone could do this much justice for Streetlight. I'm going to have to check out this guy's band now.

@FrostyKla

The backup vocals in the end chorus sell this song so much to me. I love how that is just so different from the original. Like, a cover changes the style and keeps the structure and what not, but that just got to me.

@Jakl1988

this is the best of the Dan P covers, I think, hands down. it's so manic and wonderful!

@horsecrazy132

This is a great version... It's different and just as good in it's own way.

@CharmingCriminal

It's nice having multiple ways to enjoy my favorite songs.

@nigganiggawhat85

Great cover, funny how it takes the song back to its ska side!

@LexDatrex

+ExploringIdeas .ForTheFutur well.... it is a ska musician covering a ska song.
