I studied at the feet of a master
I received teachings from a highly knowledgeable and respected mentor

Gamaliel we called him, the beauty of the law
We referred to him as Gamaliel, who was known for his deep understanding and appreciation of the law

I was born of the tribe of Benjamin, I was a pharisee
I belonged to the tribe of Benjamin and held the position of a Pharisee

And I could quote from memory the holy Torah
I had memorized the sacred Torah and could recite it by heart

That day that the Nazarene was brought to trial
On the day when Jesus from Nazareth was put on trial

It was on a sabbath eve, there was a earthquake when he died
It happened on the evening of the Sabbath, and there was an earthquake at his time of death

Just another passing preacher who came up from Galilee
He was seen as just another transient preacher who had come from Galilee

Blaspheming trouble-maker, we let him be crucified
We accused him of blasphemy and causing trouble, leading to his crucifixion

Then I thought that I would hear no more about him
I believed that his influence would fade away and he would no longer be talked about

But his friends found his tomb empty
However, his followers discovered that his tomb was empty

Claimed that he rose from the dead
They asserted that he had been resurrected

Then they said he walked among them
They stated that he appeared and interacted with them

With the nail wounds in his hands
They claimed he still had the scars from the nails in his hands

That king upon a donkey with a thorn crown on his head
They described him as a king riding on a donkey, wearing a crown made of thorns

His followers kept growing in great number
The number of his disciples continued to increase significantly

And the one that they call Caiaphas mocked us in the judgment hall
A person known as Caiaphas ridiculed us in the court

And with the Greek name Stephen, we knew the gentiles had come in
When we encountered someone named Stephen with a Greek name, we recognized that the Gentiles were also joining their movement

I cast my vote against him, he was stoned I saw him fall
I voted in favor of condemning him, and I witnessed his execution by stoning

Then the friends of the Nazarene became united
The friends and followers of Jesus united with a common purpose

And I became enraged then led a slaughter zealously
This made me furious, and I zealously participated in persecuting and causing harm

I found their secret places, they were beaten, they were chained
I located their hidden meeting places, where I subjected them to physical abuse and imprisonment

But some of them were scattered, justified in fearing me
However, some managed to escape and were justified in fearing my actions

Then the man in white, appeared to me
At that moment, a man dressed in white appeared before me

In such a blinding light it struck me down
His radiant light was so intense that it caused me to fall to the ground

With its brilliance, took away my sight, then the man in white
His brilliant light blinded me, and he was the one dressed in white

In gentle loving tone spoke to me
He addressed me in a tender and loving manner

And I was blinded so that I might see, the man in white
I was blinded in order to gain true insight and understanding, by the man clothed in white

But like the wind that blows the scattered sea
Similar to the wind that disperses the sea's waves

From Alexandria to Antioch their congregation grew
Their religious community expanded from Alexandria to Antioch

I went to the high priest for letters of permission
I approached the high priest to obtain official authorization

To go to other cities, to see my mission through
To travel to other cities and fulfill my mission

Six days on the hot road to the masters
I endured a six-day journey on scorching roads to reach my mentors

And just outside the city in the middle of the day
Then, in broad daylight just outside the city

A great unearthly light struck and overpowered me
I was suddenly struck and overwhelmed by a tremendous supernatural light

Prostrate on the hot road, I was blinded where I laid
I fell facedown on the scorching road and became blind

Then I thought I heard the rushing of great water
At that moment, I believed I heard the sound of rushing water

And a multitude of angels singing sweet and heavenly
I perceived a multitude of angels singing harmonious and divine melodies

And through the sound of wind, came a voice so soft and kind
Amidst the sound of the wind, a gentle and compassionate voice emerged

Meant for only me to hear, 'Saul, why do you persecute me?'
The words were intended solely for my ears, saying, 'Saul, why are you causing harm to me?'

As I lay there on the ground, in my blindness
While lying on the ground, unable to see due to my blindness

He asked me once again, and suddenly the voice I knew
He repeated the question, and suddenly I recognized the voice

So finally I managed, a trembling response
Finally, in a trembling voice, I mustered a response

Who are you lord? I asked him, but I already knew
I inquired, 'Who are you, Lord?' even though I already had an understanding

I am Jesus of Nazareth, the voice answered
The voice responded, 'I am Jesus of Nazareth'

Arise go to Damascus on the street called straight will be

So now I live to serve my master

As zealous in his service as I once was as his foe
I am as passionate in serving him as I was fervent in opposing him

And keeping his commandments given on Damascus road
I diligently follow the instructions he revealed to me on the road to Damascus

I go to all the world, and I let the whole world know
I travel to every corner of the world, spreading the message to all nations
