Not necessarily. This sound is an active sonar. And those only work if the sound can travel from the emitting boat, to the target and back. If it can't do the round trip, or if by chance the emitting boat can't pick ip the response, they have no clue you're there.

But you know. And you know exactly where to find them

And if youbjust happen to be a diver around when the sonar hits you, it will likely cause an extremely nasty feeling and if you are close enough it will kill you.

@Palaius from what I understand you can be in the "deaf" spot of a sonar, sound waves can bounce around you but not touch the submarine, so you're not detected. But if they do reach you, they'll take the same way back to the emitter. Most decent anti submarine frigates will not spam pings, so when they do ping, they already have a suspicion, and if you hear it, probably means they're onto you. Doesn't mean it's over though.

@Palaius that’s why they send broadband sound as you can hear in the video. Sweeping across frequencies because they submarine hull will resonate at some of those
