1) A Lond… Read Full Bio ↴There are multiple bands / artists using the name Darts;
1) A London Based 'doo-wop' vocal group.
2) A Melbourne based indie-punk band.
1) Darts were a nine-piece, London-based 'doo-wop' vocal group formed in 1976 by bass singer Den Hegarty who, along with Griff Fender, Rita Ray and Horatio Hornblower, had previously performed with Rocky Sharpe and the Razors.
Their first hit was a medley of The Rays' "Daddy Cool" and Little Richard's "The Girl Can't Help It", which reached no.6 in the UK charts at the end of 1977.
They had a total of 12 single chart hits including three consecutive British No. 2's ("Come Back My Love", "The Boy From New York City" and the self-penned "It's Raining"), the only act to achieve this without ever reaching the No. 1 spot. They also released four albums; "Darts", "Everyone Plays Darts", "The Amazing Darts" (a "best-of" compilation) and "Dart Attack". "Darts" and "Everyone Plays Darts" reached the top ten in the album charts, no mean feat in a country where doo-wop was never a big craze.
Hegarty left the group in 1978 and was replaced by Kenny Andrews. The band recorded their fifth album but it remained unreleased until very recently; it has now become known as "Frantic Antics - The Lost Studio Album".
The band continued performing, including a tour of the USA and a Stateside album entitled "Darts Across America". Several personnel changes (including comedian Lenny Henry taking the role of bass singer for a short while) occurred until the band split in 1985. Since then, a variety of "best of" albums have been released, including a Warner's "The Platinum Collection".
Since 2005, the band sporadically reform for one-off concerts, with Griff Fender, Den Hegarty, Horatio Hornblower and others playing to great aplomb to sold-out venues.More information at www.amazingdarts.com
2) Melbourne based indie-punk band "Darts", kicked started their career when they won the chance to perform on the Groovin The Moo Festival main stage via triple J Unearthed. In 2012, their debut album ‘Habitual Slack’ was released in Melbourne with mastering duties left to the renowned Howie Weinberg. (Nirvana, Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeah's) The well received album was enough to get them invited back to Groovin The Moo Festival a second time in 2012. http://dartsmusic.com
Let's Hang On
Darts Lyrics

True love takes a lot of tryin'
Oh, I'm cryin'
Let's hang on to what we've got
Don't let go, girl, we've got a lot
Got a lot of love between us
Hang on, hang on, hang on to what we've got
You say you're gonna go and call it quits
Gonna chuck it all and break our love to bits
Break it up (I wish you'd never said it)
Break it up (oh no, we'll both regret it)
That little chip of diamond on your hand
Ain't a fortune , baby
But you know it stands for the love, (a love to tie and bind ya)
Such a love (we just can't leave behind us)
Baby (don't you know?)
Baby (don't you go)
Think it over and stay
Let's hang on to what we've got
Don't let go, girl, we've got a lot
Got a lot of love between us
Hang on, hang on, hang onto what we've got
There isn't anything I wouldn't do
I'd pay any price to get in good with you
Patch it up (give me a second turnin')
Patch it up (don't cool off while I'm burnin')
You've got me cryin', dyin' at you door
Don't shut me out, ooh, let me in once more
Open up (your arms, I need to hold you)
Open up (your heart, oh girl, I love you)
Baby, don't you know?
Baby, no, no, no
Think it over and stay
Let's hang on to what we've got
Don't let go, girl, we've got a lot
Got a lot of love between us
Hang on, hang on, hang on to what we've got
The lyrics in Darts's song "Let's Hang On" speak about the importance of holding onto a relationship that is worth fighting for. The singer sings about how true love takes effort and it is important to hang on to what they have amidst the struggles. The chorus repeats the message of holding on and not letting go due to the abundance of love between the couple.
The second verse talks about the possibility of a breakup with the singer pleading with their partner not to leave. They highlight the value of the love they share by referencing the diamond on their partner's finger, stating that it symbolizes the love that ties and binds them together. The singer puts in everything, offering to pay any price to make things right between them. The bridge is a plea to the partner not to shut them out but to let them in once more, as they open up their arms and heart to embrace them. The lyrics are relatable to anyone who has experienced the ups and downs in a relationship and the importance of fighting for what is worth having.

Much as I like Darts enormously, the Four Seasons’ version is difficult to top. The production values are much higher than this version by Darts.

@Mark Stevenson I have, this is better.

The 4 Seasons always had an amusement park sound to them, a "Palisades Amusement Park", sound. A place they performed a number of times.

One of the best ever songs they did - this excellent cover of a 1960's 4-Seasons song brings those memories from one of the best years of my life back!!

The Darts were a very talented, slick outfit and they did great pastiches of earlier tunes..and did serious justice to them. Tney also wrote a few good songs, but like so many similar acts, there's only so much mileage in being a "covers," band that stays in the charts once the novelty wears off. I fear much the same will befall the Overtones. Mind you, much of Oasis's output sounded like Beatles covers! :O)
