Let's dance
David Bowie ( Lyrics

Ah, ah, ah, ah
Let's dance
Let's dance
Let's dance

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let's dance
To the song they're playing on the radio
Let's sway
While color lights up your face
Let's sway
Sway through the crowd to an empty space

If you say run, I'll run with you
If you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
would break my heart in two
If you should fall into my arms
And tremble like a flower

Let's dance
Let's dance
Let's dance

For fear your grace should fall
Let's dance
For fear tonight is all

Let's sway you could look into my eyes
Let's sway
Under the moonlight this serious moonlight

And if you say run, I'll run with you
And if you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
would break my heart in two
If you should fall into my arms
And tremble like a flower

Let's dance
Let's dance
Let's dance
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues
Let's dance
To the song they're playin'

Let's sway
Let's sway
Under the moonlight, this serious moonlight

Let's dance
Let's
Let's
Let's
Let's dance
Let's dance

Let's dance, let's dance, let's dance, let's dance, let's dance
Let's dance
Let's dance
Let's dance
Let's dance, let's dance, let's dance, let's dance, let's dance
Let's dance

Overall Meaning

David Bowie's "Let's Dance" is an upbeat, groovy, and clubby track that encourages people to dance and sway to the beat. The song is an invitation to have fun and let loose, and it's evident in the lyrics. Bowie uses an array of metaphors and analogies to describe the joy of dancing. He asks the listener to put on their "red shoes" and dance "the blues" - this combination of colors signifies the feeling of conflicting emotions. The song's lyrics invite the listener to be bold, take a risk, and let go of their fears, be it love, grace, or the present moment. Bowie also promises his lover that he will run or hide with them if needed, reflecting his devotion and support.

The song's overall tone is upbeat and cheerful, which hides the deeper meaning behind the lyrics. While the song may seem like a mindless dance track, it explores feelings of love, fear, and commitment that are universal. Bowie wrote the track with Nile Rodgers, a famous guitarist and songwriter who also produced the album with Bowie. The song became one of Bowie's most popular and commercially successful tracks, remaining on the charts for almost six months. Bowie's captivating voice, danceable beats, and engaging lyrics have made "Let's Dance" an anthem for decades.

@@DJDanceClassic There are actually two different versions of what happened in the great book "Texas Flood". In one version, SRV quit; in the other, Bowie fired him. Either could be true; Stevie didn't take a lot of crap from people, and Bowie could be a prima donna asshole.
SRV, Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon all said that once Bowie decided he wanted SRV to play on his upcoming album and Stevie agreed , Bowie immediately asked him to join the tour as Bowie's guitarist.
As part of Stevie being in the tour band, Double Trouble would open a select number of shows. Of course, nothing was ever signed to confirm that, and trusting Bowie, Stevie went ahead and began rehearsals with the tour band.
As the start date for the tour got closer, Layton and Shannon said they received no specific tour dates for them to open for Bowie, and Bowie's people would not return phone calls. Layton and Shannon finally realized it wasn't going to happen.
At some point, Stevie was also told that he was not going to be allowed to mention Double Trouble or his own music in interviews before or during the tour. Fed up, Stevie said he quit the tour as the band was about to board the bus for their first flight; Bowie's camp continued to say he was fired, for what they don't specify. Stevie showed up and played at all album sessions and tour rehearsals.

Stevie is quoted as saying he never intended to be no more than a sideman for Bowie, and that he had an album about to be released to promote on his own. Apparently, he expected that when Double Trouble opened for Bowie, they'd play songs from the album to promote it.
Double Trouble's first album was released shortly before the Bowie tour started, and the band launched a massive tour of their own to promote it. The rest is history.

RIP MR. BOWIE. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING JOY TO THE WORLD.

"I sometimes forget
that I was created for Joy.

My mind is too busy.
My Heart is too heavy
for me to remember
that I have been
called to dance
the Sacred dance of life.

I was created to smile
To Love
To be lifted up
And to lift others up.

O’ Sacred One
Untangle my feet
from all that ensnares.
Free my soul.
That we might Dance
and that our dancing
might be contagious."

~Hafiz, Persian 14th Century poet
