My darlin' you're so fine
Oh
Don't know if words can say
But darlin' I'll find a way
To let you know what you meant to me
Guess it was meant to be
As life's most precious part
Oh darlin'
I dream about you often my pretty girl babe
(Darlin' you're so fine)
I love the way you soften my life with your love
Your precious love uh huh, oh
I was living like half a man
Then I couldn't love but now I can
You pick me up when I'm feeling sad
More soul than I ever had
Gonna love you every single night
Cause I think you're too outta sight
Oh oh darlin'
I dream you often my pretty girl babe
(Darlin' you're so fine)
I love the way soften my life with your love
Your precious love uh huh huh
Every night oh darlin'
Gonna love you every single night, yes I will
Cause I think you're too doggone outta sight
Oh darlin'
I dream about you often my pretty girl babe
(Darlin' you're so fine)
I love the way soften my life with your love
Your precious love uh huh huh
In David Cassidy's song Darlin', he expresses his love for a woman with whom he has a deep connection. He starts the song by telling her she is "so fine" and that he will find a way to convey his feelings to her even if words fall short. He then proceeds to thank her for being a precious and essential part of his life by holding her in his heart. Cassidy goes on to say he dreams about her often, describing her as a "pretty girl babe" and sharing how she softens his life with her love, which is so valuable to him. He explains that before he met her, he was only living half a life, but now he is able to love fully because of her. She is so kind and supportive that she picks him up when he feels down, filling him with more soul than he ever thought possible. Finally, Cassidy promises to love her every single night because he thinks she is too outta sight.
One interpretation of the song is that Cassidy is expressing gratitude for a woman who has helped him find a new sense of purpose in his life. Cassidy may have previously struggled with some personal issues that prevented him from living a fulfilling life, but this woman has given him the necessary support and guidance to become a better person. Furthermore, Cassidy may also be expressing his love for someone who has helped him become more self-aware and has encouraged him to follow his dreams, hence the chorus line "I love the way you soften my life with your love."
