So these are some of the theories or thoughts I had on this movie that hasn’t been mentioned
It’s kinda long so read at your risk!

Dollhouse- the theory that they were all just playthings, no control. Melanie martinezes “dollhouse” can maybe play into this considering they were the “picture perfect” or average household family but that they were all caught up in some kind of weird headspace

Also most of the shots in this movie were kinda doll-like? Like when the camera went to the dollhouse it was like a straight, head on positioned shot and most of the time the camer was kinda positioned like that. This just reminds me of how it’s mentioned that they were doll-like in the way that they didn’t have control

Charlie looks at the cult/demon symbol and instantly looks at the smiling dude, when she sees the cult necklace in the coffin viewing. This just seemed sus to me, like later on in the movie it revealed that Charlie was paimon or smt? And that kinda foreshadowed it a lil bit

When Peter fell, the light evaporated into him, the follow the light is heavily symbolized. Also in the book with the host body snatching instructions, it said to have a VUNERABLE host, when Peter fell that was probably at his most vulnerable moment and the beheading of three people (which was completed with Annie) left the ritual to probably be complete. I think when the light went into him, that was the moment paimon could’ve took over Peter? He just didn’t seem Peter when he got up, as well as the tongue click

I love this new genre of horror, I'm tired of all the cheesy pop ups and cringe CGI kills. This is truly heart wrenching and leaves you anxious afterwards. The acting and set ups in this movie are perfect and it's impossible to hate on a film like this.

Right? There's a level of psychological horror to it and I'm here for it! Horror movies, for a good amount of time, have all left me feeling like "Well... Why didn't they just-" and try to apply logic to it. I cannot stand movies where I'm left off with a similar thought of "Why tf did that chick/dude open the door in the middle of nowhere WELL aware that NO ONE is coming for them until x pm?"
This movie, while logic can be applied to it, doesn't really make me feel like I'm watching some dumb paranormal movie:) This had me feeling anxious and I haven't felt like this for a horror movie in a long time! XD

Literally! In so many horror movies the protagonist simply stands there in shock, or even stops running or fleeing. Having a protagonist actually attempt to survive was a real breath of fresh air in the horror genre

Hereditary was spoiled for me, and it STILL made me feel absolute dread when watching Charlie's death. The mom's scream when finding Charlie is just so gut-wrenching and unforgettable. I admit, I haven't been able to sit through the whole thing because it makes my stomach turn, not from gore, but from how dreadfully sad it is. No other film has that effect on me. Absolutely amazing storytelling

I knew nothing about it and was actually texting my brother as I was watching it. I couldn't even put into words how disturbing this movie is. I remember typing What the fuck am I watching. Possessed Annie banging her head against the attic door and later sawing her own head off with a piano wire was the nail in the coffin.

When Peter starts calling Annie “mommy” at the very end, that is definitely the smallest detail that affected me as much as it did. Ever since the sleepwalking incident, he hasn’t trusted his mother and felt like she doesn’t care about him. And after the horrific events of the movie, and them being angry at each other, all he wants is for Annie to just care about and love him. So when everything goes wrong, and Annie is possessed and chasing him, he calls her “mommy” because he thinks that the last time she loved him was when he was young enough to call her that. That shits just devastating to me.

The mom banging her head on the ceiling was definitely one of the most disturbing and terrifying moments for me. The head is something that people always protect so seeing someone intentionally banging their head super fast on the ceiling was genuinely one of the most terrifying moments besides Charlie’s obviously.

For me, personally, the scariest scenes are the ones with Peter. The scene where Charlie dies and the last scene. It was...unsettling. Just the emotional weight of those scenes. How Peter couldn't even look at her. The guilt, just brilliant. And the last scene was the only one that might haunt me.

The scariest part of the film for me was Annie's mum standing in the corner of her room. At first it's just a good old spooky appearance, but as the story evolves that mental image of her just becomes so much more terrifying. It's like if you sat at a park bench and had a chat with a stranger, only to find out later they were a serial killer...

The fact that Alex had to go to therapy after filming this... Everyone talks about Toni's performance but Alex was so incredible. His acting made the movie. I feel so sad that he struggled afterward but I'm not shocked at all since he reaalllyyy had to go there to perform like that

I’m actually impressed by how accurate King Paimon’s powers are portrayed in the movie. He prefers to inhabit the body of men, inflicts severe torment on his victims which includes recreating traumatic events, and creates horrifying visions and nightmares. Ari Aster definitely did some research on the Ars Goetia before making this movie.

Honestly the look of shock and horror the brother has, as he realizes his sister is dead is so believable and disturbing, incredible acting all around. It’s so realistic and insane as you see the realization completely shuts him down emotionally as he just drives away trying to pretend nothing happened at all. You see this mental state as he lays in his bed throughout the night you can easily imagine what he’s think as he comes to the realization of what he did and that his life will never be the same again as he enjoys his last moments of his parents being unaware of what has happened. It’s so horrifying and believable, I could easily see myself reacting in the same fashion if I had gone through that horrifying scenario.

I didn't know what to expect going in and I hadn't been exposed to any spoilers so you can imagine my reaction when the scene with Charlie happens. I thought she would die before they got the EpiPen because they seemed to live away from the city and they have to travel that stretch of road. It was such a shocking moment that I paused the film and stared in horror trying not to let my emotions get the best of me - and then he just goes up to his bedroom and you hear the mom screaming the next day and then her breakdown. The culmination was written, filmed, and portrayed perfectly.

Steve is great. You can tell he is hurting at ghe loss of his daughter. At the dinner he wanted to say something but he couldn't. He is hurt but not going to take it out on his son. Everyone always talks about Charlie not being more careful when eating the chocolate cake that may or may not have nuts in it.

The cake didn’t have nuts though. In an earlier scene before Charlie is having reactions, you can see a group of people cutting nuts with a knife. They use the same knife to cut the cake. Cross contaminating.

When I say this movie is a miserable watching experience I mean it in the most positive way I can articulate. It is dreadfully beautiful in all of the worst ways and unbelievably well made. My jaw literally dropped at Charlie's decapitation. It was so sudden, and honestly oddly realistic. Death itself, especially freak accidents, don't have a build up, it just happens, and Peter's reaction was so raw

The decapitation scene was based off of an actual event which occurred on the 2nd of September, 2004. John Hutcherson was driving home (drunk) with his friend, Francis Brohm, in the back seat. Francis hung his head out of the window as he was car sick and John swerved causing Francis' neck to strike a telephone pole support wire. Despite this, John continued home and went to bed. The next morning a neighbor of John found Brohm's headless corpse in the car. The police were called and John was imprisoned for 5 years for vehicular homicide and drunk driving.

I will probably never watch this movie again- because it scared me that bad. So much emotion and terror filled me, I don’t know if I could handle revisiting it. I feel like a lot of stories like this that use horror to explore grief and personal problems have the bad ending because the horror is more effective. God the scene after Peter comes home with a decapitated Charlie in the back , and the next morning the mom is talking to the dad about going to the store and it just builds up the intense moment as she is getting ready to leave to only find out her daughter is in the back seat dead and headless . That scene haunted me along with the mom crying for days and days with a real hurt in the heart. That scene played in my head for DAYS .

Something that I find really interesting about midsommar is that it makes you like the “evil” characters and hate the “good” ones. That’s probably why people thought the ending is happy even though it very well could be evil, or how Christian was raped but many brushed it off because he was set up as an obstacle to Dani. It isn’t set in a creepy atmosphere by setting or constant suspense because it doesn’t need to be. It’s a slow descent into madness that “manipulates” the viewer and makes them subconsciously support everything that happened, just like Dani does at the end. All of the movie’s hints are super subtle, and you don’t quite catch it unless you try, just like Hereditary. Awesome film-making, really a one-of-a-kind horror movie.

Man I can't speak to how it went for him, but I ate an edible before going into the theater. It kicked in right when the party scene started, and I had a great/terrifying time from there on out.

This channel is awesome. You go way beyond just summarizing the movie (some channels say they’re “explaining the movie” but actually are just summarizing the plot), this channel does that but more, mentioning background, production information and a little more and then doing the kill count. Thanks for the content.

One final thing, Charlie was always Paimon and Peter’s soul is gone too. It’s all just Paimon.

That scream that the mom did when she discovered Charlie’s corpse... that scared me the most. The pure emotion of grief and agony... I had to turn the movie off. I think it even gave me a fear of screams like that, which is something I didn’t have before. So yeah- kudos to that actress.

when my mom got the call that her dad suddenly died, I was upstairs in my room and heard her wail like that. you instantly know something is REALLY wrong when you hear cries like that. I froze for a second and booked it downstairs. when I saw this movie it brought back that memory and made me sob. I had to pause the movie to get it all out lol. its definitely not a sound I want to hear again.

I can verify from unfortunate personal experience. That is exactly what that sounds like. I woke up to it and have had to relive it for the past 4 years. The actress was completely on point with that because all you can do is scream.

God this is my favorite horror movie still, one of the reasons being when I saw it the theater’s ambiance when I saw it as well as reacting with everyone, being so surprised and shocked at multiple points with all of us freaking out. I just love this move

I went into the movie blind. When Charlie lost her head…whew. I had to take a break. The next day, when Peter overhears Annie going out to the car was so awkward. Most of the movie I was unsure of how to feel. It was visually stunning. I think I’d watch watch it again.

19:54-20:04 I’m not sure if too many people know, or remember this but Toni Collette starred in a TV series called “United States of Tara,” that aired on Showtime from ‘09-‘11.

It was about a stay at home mom who had D.I.D. and I think that’s where she perfected facial movements/shifts like this at.

She is one of my favorite actors/actresses and it started with that show. She is an absolute gem of a performer, and if you haven’t seen the show before, and love TC, check it out!!

Group therapy scenes are a great way to give exposition without it feeling forced. It adds emotion to an otherwise obvious tell don't show scene.

The dude just drove home, police arrived next morning when his neighbors saw the wrecked car with the half body stuck onto it. One of the gnarliest accidents to happen in my town in years

this was so unexpectedly terrifying, especially the scene where Annie was banging her head against the attic door. I feel so bad for all these characters and I can't get over Charlie and Steve's death. Whilst Annie's was unexpected and sad, Steve's made me sad because all he wanted to do was help without realizing that they were all too far gone.

I watched this movie opening night with a girl I was dating, shortly after highschool graduation. That will legit be one of the most memorable movie experiences of my life lol she was terrified and although I didnt do the clicking noise in theatre like the asshole sitting behind us did, I definitely messed with her for a few weeks after by clicking at random moments and pretending it wasn't me. Definitely one of the best modern horror movies imo
