R'n'Bullshit
Deaf Havana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was born a few decades too late (yeah)
My bitterness increases by the day

And I left my heart in 2005
And since then I've been simply wasting time

I'll be fine losing friends and sleepless nights
And I'll be fine living through the years I left behind

Music found its way before my time
We lost it back in 1999
What's the point in trying to write something inspiring
When the best songs have all been written by a lie

I'll be fine losing friends and sleepless nights
And I'll be fine living through the years I left behind

So somebody tell Rihanna I can't get it up and I strongly doubt it's big enough
Oh and the party started before Kesha walked in.

Taio Cruz's fuse went out, and JLS' one shot didn't count
But I guess the jokes' on me 'cause I'm so skint and they've got millions rolling in.

Overall Meaning

In "R'n'Bullshit", Deaf Havana's lead vocalist, James Veck-Gilodi, makes a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the current state of the music industry. The song begins with Veck-Gilodi lamenting his birth in the wrong era, a theme that persists throughout the song. He expresses his increasing bitterness, and how he feels he's wasting time since he left his heart back in 2005. As the song progresses, he criticizes modern music, claiming that the best songs were written by a lie and that there's no point in trying to write something inspiring anymore.

The chorus of the song indicates Veck-Gilodi's resolve to be fine with living in the past, losing friends, and having sleepless nights. He repeats this chorus to emphasize the point that he'll be okay. Towards the end of the song, he delivers a cheeky verse directed at popular artists of the time, telling Rihanna that he can't perform, making digs at Ke$ha and Taio Cruz while also highlighting how skint he is while these other artists have millions rolling in.

Overall, "R'n'Bullshit" is a commentary on how pop music has become formulaic, repetitive and not authentic, focusing on the appearance and style rather than the lyrics.
