Overall Meaning

Hey Tango, I'm the guy that made the inventory update suggestion in your stream on wednesday.
To give a bit more details regarding the "open shulkerbox in inventory" suggestion:

- If you use right click on a shulker in your inventory, it opens up the same GUI, as if you had opened a single chest.
(To help people visualize: Chest inventory up top, replacing your player character and crafting GUI, your inventory in the middle and hotbar down below).

- You should also get a hotkey to open the first shulker in your inventory, which also opens the same GUI as described above. This is purely a QoL feature, but it makes it feels much better to use. And as a gamedev you want to reduce the number of clicks/actions a player has to do to achieve something the player often does/wants to do.

- The "pick block" inventory search should also look into shulker chests and pull stuff from there into your hotbar. Currently "pick block" looks in your hotbar first, than inventory. And after that it should look into the shulker chests in your inventory. This is effectively a very vanilla "refill" method for placing lots and lots of blocks. Especially if you use a diverse build palette and therefore dont have much room in your inventory! But it doesnt help with food and stuff like rockets.

This is a very simple and very vanilla solution. And it should work everywhere and on every platform, because it uses the same mechanics and GUI as opening a chest.
Obviously stuff like shulker preview (like they have with bundles already), sorting, ability to switch the whole hotbar with inventory rows, double chest size inventory & shulkers/"backpacks" and stuff like auto refill for items and vacuuming matching items into shulkers, or even reserving slots with ghost blocks/items, are all nice-to-have features helping the the inventory problem, but I wanted to keep it simple and effective with my baseline suggestion!

So often, when a "builder" makes progress, you see their base organically grow and evolve over time, and with a "redstoner", you'll have one machine or farm or game constructed.
It's amazing how Tango can manage to have his redstone projects organically grow and evolve. He has become a "redstone builder", and I don't think there are many of those. It's hugely impressive!

"Full package" minecrafters are pretty rare. Redstoners who are also great builders are a little more common (like Doc, Etho, Mumbo, etc.) but the guys who want to fully integrate are vanishingly rare. Pretty much only Tango could've made decked out 2.

I have huge respect for the way he plays as well (and for the behind-the-scenes team he has cultivated for himself), but he is not the Tinkerer like Tango. With Tango it feels like a natural flow, like a musician improvising a piece of music on the spot others would take weeks to learn from sheets. I'm stunned how far he has come since his Iron Titan days (and he was already a top-tier minecraft player back then).

Mumbo has come a long way too, and he has a solid level of playfulness, of improvisation and experimentation, and he's not afraid of quirky builds. But redstone and building are still separate realms. He does redstone and decorates it, or he makes a build and fills it with functionality, but the two don't merge into one.

Etho is an elder god, a being of incomprehensible traits, and I know better than comparing him to anyone or comparing anyone to Etho.

The only issue would be is that Tango is pretty centrally located, and that transportation system relies on a straight line from a player unloaded chunk. I'd say that's why Doc ventured 4000 blocks out for his 'starter' base, it's a pretty safe bet that the chunks will not be loaded unless he wants them to be.

While it seems like a lot of people didn't like the conveyor belts, I will say Tango that it was a genius idea having them doubled up so that the item frames of each conveyor was always in sight no matter which end you looked at.

You have essentially created MMIO in Minecraft: every item in the storage section has an "address", the crafters can request an item by writing an address to a common bus, and there's an address decoder that signals the correct chest to release an item. You even have round-robin-scheduling to ensure that only one crafter writes to the bus at a time!

I'm not an expert, but don't item frames generate a lot of lag? And there is already a lot of stuff around that might also do it (moving minecarts and items, for example).

Watching this almost makes me sad. I was trying to figure out my own factory for redstone components. The stuff I am building is huge, and all the protection systems that prevent overflowing or running out of items are really bulky. Frankly I am creating a monster.

about 2 months ago, it took me several hours to engineer a piston door. just a basic 1x2 jeb-style door, but hooked up to a lectern. (didn't know the term at the time)
now I've built a bunch of other, increasingly complex doors and other constructs, but I'm still proud of that first door.
tldr we're all at different stages and what you do is awesome because you did it.

Doing stuff on your own is the best way to enjoy it.

If you want to get more sleek, find people to explain your design to, or just write it all out, or just build a sample to see how it works. All three of these can help us find all the places where we've over-engineered our solution. Over-thinking is a natural part of the development process. Simplifying is often a result of the review and feedback loop.

This is one of the reasons I enjoy working in a team environment. When the design gets convoluted I can call over a teammate and explain what I am doing. Doesn't matter which of us notices the shortcut first, the process of reviewing the design exposes the other options.

Cool redstone tip: if you place a decorated pot and face a comparator into it and then fill it up with banners or something that stacked to 16, each banner will increase the signal strength by one (the 16th banner doesn't increase the signal strength). Idk what you'd use this for but it was just a cool little thing I stumbled upon when I was playing around with redstone (it works for a nice counter).

I found it só weird hearing Tango say people disliked the conveyor belts, as they "didn't feel vanilla". What? Yes, that's because Hermitcraft isn't really vanilla. Decked out, the custom models, the totally custom audio disks, armor stand magic, the hermit permits, demise, new recipes and even the custom wandering trader. If it was something related to functionality, then I'd agree it doesn't fit Hermitcraft, but as everything else... The conveyors were simply visual cosmetics.

But I think there's an even bigger issue: If a recipe needs items that are enough to craft an earlier recipe you can't craft it (e.g. you can't craft buttons if the minecart has to travel over the recipe for pressure plates earlier, or you can't craft anything that needs redstone dust if the minecart has to travel over the redstone block recipe first) with your current setup. You probably could avoid most issues by arranging the recipes in such a way that earlier recipes always need more items than the later ones (e.g. dispenser before dropper, or redstone torch before redstone block) but that won't work with everything. So you'll probably need to put enough items in a minecart that it can fill more than a single recipe.

Tango said items are not crafted if the storage for them is full. So once he gets the factory output hooked up to storage (instead of just dropping items on the ground) that won't be too big an issue. Sure, in your example, pressure plates will take priority over buttons. But eventually enough will be crafted, and the item sorter for the pressure plate crafter will fill up. Then the ingredients will make it past to be used for buttons.

@@Duskkit that's the problem tho. If it requested buttons but the cart has to cross over the pressure plate crafter first it's gonna fill that recipe first. Usually it wouldn't be too big of a problem as once the hopper is full the items no longer get pulled out at that crafting station. But in this case all hoppers are full enough thus the crafter crafts until the hoppers are empty enough again. So it'll always craft pressure plates instead of buttons.
It doesn't matter that the pressure plate cgest will be full as that doesn't stop the crafter from crafting (unless I saw it wrong?)

Yes at 12:14 you can see that to the crafter it doesn't matter if the according chest is full. It always crafts whenever all 3 torches are off and that's the only requirement

Yeah, I think I agree with your bug report. Unless the hoppers are locked, the cart has to carry enough of __ to supply all the crafters in the factory that want ___. Otherwise, the farthest crafter using ___ can request all the time and all the earlier crafters will empty the cart before it arrives.

So the other question is, did Tango include a system to lock all of crafter A's inputs while that crafter's output storage is above threshold?

@@SirJerric I tried to copy the build from what I see in the video and at around 19:23 there seems to be a toggle to turn the crafter on/off. Below the redstone that gets powered by the 3 torches I mentioned in an earlier comment is a 4th one. And with the observer toggling the lamp you can indeed deactivate the crafter and you don't even need to lock the hoppers.

Everytime i see tango do redstone i get very confused but i find great joy in watching people being passionate about something and watching him explain a giant invention beyond my comprehension makes me really happy

To avoid the limit of only getting one item each time maybe you could use the binary signal as a refresher of a timeout, once a module gets the first signal it could start pumping items out for x seconds, if it receives the signal the timer would reset, if the items arent needed anymore then it would timeout

It might, but you have to remember it's keeping things topped up vs an on request basis.

I think its deliberately one item each time, cause it doesn't know how many items are needed in the chest so if it did like 5 at a time it might make too many and there not be room in the chest

That binary encoder is simultaneously the geekiest and the coolest thing ever. I love it.

Will miss those belts though. Idk who I am more disappointed in, the internet for pressuring you to remove them, or you for giving in to the pressure.

I hope you'll at least do some custom audio discs with like ambient factory noises, things likes belts going, alarms, whistles, etc.

I really like the new visual direction of the factory! I agreed that the animated texture conveyer belts felt a bit too Create-y when the rest of the server is largely vanilla (huge fan of Create but agreed, it's not the vibe here, and the best solution with Vanilla+ is unfortunately a bit jank). My thoughts about this season:
Zedaph's mind works in truly non-linear fashion.
Doc's mind works in truly game-breaking fashion.
Tango's mind works in truly game-redefining fashion.
Just between those three alone, we're seeing some true geniuses at work, and that's not even taking into account Cub's fireworks factory and so much else going on. I think the crafting blocks have really pushed Hermitcraft into a whole new sphere of creative madness.
I am seriously in awe of Tango's new system.

Zed blew my mind with that villager.... but the level my mind was blown by,... a storage system!!!???!?!?!?! is on par with Docs Lightning machine and his teleporting saaaaaaand (and maybe even more) from Season 8!!! This is incredible Tango. Can't wait to see Docs and Ethos response to this, both as they see it and as they try to one up ya!
