Singin' in the Rain: Moses
Debbie Reynolds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm singin' in the rain,
Just singin' in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
I'm happy again!
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above,
The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love!
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place,
Come on with your rain,
I've got a smile on my face!
I'll walk down the lane
With a happy refrain,
Just singin', singin' in the rain!

Why am I smiling and why do I sing?
Why does December seem sunny as Spring?
Why do I get up each morning to start
Happy and head-up with joy in my heart?
Why is each new task a trifle to do?
Because I am living a life full of you!

Hey, I'm singin' in the rain,
Just singin' in the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
I'm happy again!
I'm laughing at clouds
So dark up above,
The sun's in my heart and I'm ready for love!
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from the place,
Come on with your rain,
I've got a smile on my face!
I'll walk down the lane

With a happy refrain,
Just singin', singin' in the rain!

Overall Meaning

The song "Singin' in the Rain" is an old classic that carries a lot of meanings behind its lyrics. The rainy weather in the song serves as a metaphor for life's hardships, but the singer chooses to focus on the positive aspects of life rather than dwell in the negativity. The lyrics suggest that the sun can still exist within one's heart, even if the sky is still cloudy and dark. Therefore, it's about finding joy in the present moment, even if things don't go smoothly.

OK, I love Gene Kelly, but this whole movie would be nothing without Donald O'Connor. He basically does everything, finds the girl, saves the movie, comes up with a new title, and basically kicks ass. I would have gone with him and forget Don Lockwood if I was Kathy!

@storminboy

Never seen the movie but always play this scene for my 9 year old girl.

@Elong.

retrogeek994 wholocked must have missed his genius tap solo

@gumballisthiccfan9710

Stormin Boy you should see the movie

@gothcat54

Agreed! Not to take anything away from Gene Kelly's incredible talent, but Donald O'Connor was SO underrated! From this film alone, there's THIS number, and of course his performance in the absolutely brilliant and hysterical, "Make Em' Laugh!"

I loved dance from a young age, and even though my parents didn't let me watch much tv and we didn't watch movies, they made sure I saw this when I was young. I was absolutely entranced. I don't think I was that interested in the "romance" part until I got a little older lol, but I just LOVED the movie and will until the day I die.

After all of these years, this is still one of the best choreographed and danced scenes I have ever seen. Seriously the chemistry and timing these guys have is just incredible. They almost look like a single person dancing at some points they are so in-sync with each other!

@williamcooper6274

This was so smooth... O'Connor and Kelly had great Chemistry. Donald said he learned from Kelly a lot about economically utilizing his lower body while dancing, and in this routine it shows.

@medalia7622

agreed!!

@kutestsnails7331

William Cooper Thats it exactly. You can see that.
