Daughter of singer Jon Anderson and Jennifer, Deborah Anderson's earliest musical work is on projects with her father: including backing vocals on Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe (1989), the 1993 Latin American Jon Anderson solo tour, Deseo (1994), Angels Embrace (1995) and Toltec (1996). In the 1983 Jon & Vangelis album Private Collection, Jon wrote the lyrics and sang "Deborah", a song dedicated to his daughter.
Deborah Anderson's debut solo single, "Lonely Without You", was released on Mo' Wax. She has worked as a vocalist on a number of projects, including appearing and co-writing on Télépopmusik's album Angel Milk. She is working on a solo mini-album, called Paperthin. The album will be released with a coffee table book of her black and white photography based on 1920s erotica.
Anderson also works as a photographer, including projects for The Gansevoort Hotel group and campaign images for P!nk's album I'm Not Dead. Anderson has also been doing magazine work, including for Smooth.

Deborah Anderson Lyrics

I can't make your heart shine like it did before
You don't listen to my stories anymore
You can't comfort me the way you did before
Was I too loud, was I too bad
Was I too open
Was I too high, was I too fast
I don't feel your lips like the first kiss
I'd rather run away than sit to face the truth
Was I too proud, was I too hopeful
Was I too needing
Was I too crazy, was I too long
Was I too giving
No matter how far, no matter how long
I will be there
The lyrics to Close by Deborah Anderson captures the feeling of a relationship that has begun to crumble. The verses express the singer's sense of helplessness and insecurity as they try to understand why their partner has lost interest in them. The first verse seems to be an admission of guilt, with the singer acknowledging that they can no longer bring joy to their partner's life. They are acutely aware that the "heart shine" is not there anymore, and they long for a time when things were not so complicated. The second verse deals with the silence that has taken over the relationship. The singer no longer feels heard by their partner, and they cannot provide comfort as they did before. The chorus is an exploration of the underlying issues that have caused the breakdown in the relationship. The singer wonders if they were too much, too loud, too needy, too giving, too proud, too hopeful, too crazy, too long, or too open. These lines showcase the singer's self-doubt and confusion. Despite their flaws, the singer promises to stay in the partner's life, even if it's from afar.
