Give Her Lots of Lovin'
Del Shannon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I had a girl like you
I wouldn't treat her so cruel
I'd hold her in my arms each night
And this is what I'd do

I'd give her, lots and lots of lovin'
Lots of kissing too
I'd do anything she'd ask me to
But I don't have a girl like you

We've been friends I know so long
But this you've gotta know
If I ever get the chance
This is what I'm gonna do

I'm gonna
Give her lots of lovin'
Lots of kissing too
I'd do anything she'd ask me to
But I don't have a girl like you
Oh no
I don't have a girl like you

You treat her mean and you make her cry
You say she could never be mine
But you better change your foolish ways
'Cause you're running out of time

'Cause someday she'll realise
That you're gonna let her down
And when she falls I'm gonna catch her
And this is what I'm gonna do

I'm gonna, give her lots of lovin'
Lots of kissing too
I'd do anything she'd ask me to
But I don't have a girl like you
Not yet
I don't have a girl like you
Maybe soon
I'll have a girl like you
Won't be long now
I'll have a girl like you

Woah yeah
I'll have a girl like you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Del Shannon's song "Give Her Lots of Lovin'" describes a man who is infatuated with a girl who is being mistreated by her current partner. If he had a girl like her, he would treat her with respect and affection, giving her lots of love and doing anything she asks of him. The singer has been friends with this girl for a long time and even though he hasn't had the chance to be with her yet, he knows what he would do if given that opportunity. He warns her current partner that he needs to stop treating her poorly, or else she will leave him and the singer will be there to catch her and give her the love and affection she deserves.

The lyrics of this song are important because they portray a common struggle many individuals face in life. They often want to be with someone who is already spoken for or is in a situation that is not favorable for them. The song is a reminder that people deserve to be treated with love and respect and that they should be with someone who values them. It also encourages individuals to wait for the right person and not settle for anything less.

Del Shannon always knew how to Rock. If anyone can put you in cheerful mood It's Del Shannon. He made songs sound interesting or brought them to life. He also was a great songwriter. Others have approached him if he writes songs for them. That he also did.
