The band released only one studio album, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. The album went on to receive critical acclaim, but initially faltered in sales and in radio airplay. Although released in 1970 it was not until March 1972 that the album's single "Layla" (a tale of unrequited love inspired by Clapton's relationship with his friend George Harrison's wife, Pattie Boyd) made the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The album, which has received praise from critics and fans alike, is often considered to be the defining achievement of Clapton's career. Layla featured slide guitar from guest guitarist Duane Allman, who contributed lead, rhythm or slide guitar on most of the cuts on the album.
Anyday
Derek & The Dominos Lyrics

"Please leave me alone.
Nothing in this world can make me stay.
I'd rather go back, I'd rather go back home."
But if you believed in me like I believe in you,
We could have a love so true, we would go on endlessly.
And I know anyday, anyday, I will see you smile.
Any way, any way, only for a little while.
When this old world has got you down.
I'll be right here, so woman call me
And I'll never ever let you down.
And I know anyday, anyday, I will see you smile.
Any way, any way, only for a little while.
To break the glass and twist the knife into yourself;
You've got to be a fool to understand.
To bring your woman back home after she's left you for another,
You've got to be a, you've got to be a man.
Anyday, anyday, I will see you, I will see you smile.
Any way, any way, only for a little while.
Anyday, anyday, I will see you smile.
Any way, any way, just for a little, just for a little while.
The lyrics of Derek & The Dominos's song Anyday can be interpreted as a conversation between two lovers who are currently apart. One partner tells the other to leave them alone as nothing in the world can make them stay. However, the second partner responds with an offer of a love so true that they would go on endlessly if the other believed in them as they do. The lyrics express a longing to see each other smile and a promise to never let the other person down. The song also contains a message that it takes courage and strength to win back a loved one after they've left for someone else.
The first few lines of the song show a tone of hopelessness and despair as one partner requests the other to leave them alone. But the second partner responds with hope and love, asserting that they can have a lasting relationship if only the other shows trust in them. The chorus goes on to express a longing to see the other person smile, even if just for a little while, and an assurance that they will always be there for them. The last verse of the song shows a willingness to take any risk to win back the love of the partner who has left.
In conclusion, the lyrics of Anyday convey a message of hope, love, and devotion. The song emphasizes the importance of trust in a relationship and the courage it takes to win back a loved one. The song is a beautiful expression of the power of love and the lengths one will go to maintain it.

@hippydippy
Bobby deserves so much more credit for his contributions to this album than he's ever been credited for. In fact... It's almost a crime. His song writing, soulful gospel voice & keyboards guided this whole album. It would NEVER have been the same without him. Hail Bobby!
@Bradfiddle
Amen to that! Whitlock has never received the acclaim he deserved with George Harrison or the Layla album. From the 1st time I listened to Layla in 1971, his writing and soulful vocals stood out above Clapton's and his kybd contribution were as 'instrumental' as Eric and Duane's guitars.

@@Bradfiddle I agree...he was great. We lost him way too early.
