The group began their musical career as Girl's Tyme, formed in 1990 in Houston, Texas. After years of limited success, the quartet comprising Knowles, Rowland, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett were signed in 1997 to Columbia Records as Destiny's Child. The group was launched into mainstream recognition following the release of the song "No, No, No" and their best-selling second album, The Writing's on the Wall (1999), which contained the number-one singles "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Say My Name". Despite critical and commercial success, the group was plagued by internal conflict and legal turmoil, as Roberson and Luckett attempted to split from the group's manager Mathew Knowles, citing favoritism of Knowles and Rowland.

In early 2000, both Roberson and Luckett were replaced with Williams and Farrah Franklin; however, Franklin quit after five months, leaving the group as a trio. Their third album, Survivor (2001), whose themes the public interpreted as a channel to the group's experience, produced the worldwide hits "Independent Women", "Survivor" and "Bootylicious. In 2001, they announced a hiatus to pursue solo careers. The trio reunited three years later for the release of their fifth and final studio album, Destiny Fulfilled (2004), which spawned the international hits "Lose My Breath" and "Soldier (feat. T.I. & Lil' Wayne)". Since the group's official disbandment in 2006, Knowles, Rowland and Williams have reunited several times, including at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and 2018 Coachella festival.

Destiny's Child has sold more than sixty million records worldwide to date. Billboard ranks the group as one of the greatest musical trios of all time, the ninth most successful artist/band of the 2000s, placed the group 68th in its All-Time Hot 100 Artists list in 2008 and in December 2016, the magazine ranked them as the 90th most successful dance club artist of all time. The group was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, winning twice for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and once for Best R&B Song.

I heard someone blasting this song in their car a week ago. The song was skipping so it was probably an old cd 💿 😂 but when I heard it I began to sing along to it. Been bumping it ever since. Wow! Its crazy how songs have completely different meanings from the time you first heard them as a teenager to now listening again as an adult. I remember when this album came out I was in high school, 16 at the time and I used to wear this song out! I remember being teased in HS cuz I was a boy who liked Destiny's Child and was called all kinds of gay etc, haha., This song used to get me through those tough times growing into my identity as I matured into an adult. This song just happened to randomly play this morning while starting my daily routine and I haven't heard it in at least 10 years or so and I instantly had a moment. I just stopped everything I was doing because it instantly brought up old memories. I began to think about how everyone has been impacted over the past 3 years and the many people I've lost because life just got too hard for them and it makes me wonder if everyone had the opportunity to hear this song would it have made a difference? At the same time it makes me think of how good times used to be during the early 2000's when looking back now, life truly seemed like a dream. I remember going to the survivor tour and this was the last song they performed. I remember it being such a happy performance and at the end ill never forget this, They had a ton of yellow balloons with smiley faces on them they released into the crowd from above. I really felt the love that night and I will never forget how they made the fans feel! Don't ask me how I remembered that I was 16 then and I'm now 38. This song really did something positive to me again today and I'm happy I heard it again! DC3 4ever!!!!!!!!

I had the entire album on cassette tape in 2001 and played it constantly in the car during my long commute to/from work and there was something about this song that annoyed me so much that I'd have to skip it. I definitely didn't like the last part of the song. Twenty years later, I'm sitting on my couch and randomly thought of this song, looked it up, and actually enjoyed hearing it.
