In early 2000, both Roberson and Luckett were replaced with Williams and Farrah Franklin; however, Franklin quit after five months, leaving the group as a trio. Their third album, Survivor (2001), whose themes the public interpreted as a channel to the group's experience, produced the worldwide hits "Independent Women", "Survivor" and "Bootylicious. In 2001, they announced a hiatus to pursue solo careers. The trio reunited three years later for the release of their fifth and final studio album, Destiny Fulfilled (2004), which spawned the international hits "Lose My Breath" and "Soldier (feat. T.I. & Lil' Wayne)". Since the group's official disbandment in 2006, Knowles, Rowland and Williams have reunited several times, including at the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show and 2018 Coachella festival.
Destiny's Child has sold more than sixty million records worldwide to date. Billboard ranks the group as one of the greatest musical trios of all time, the ninth most successful artist/band of the 2000s, placed the group 68th in its All-Time Hot 100 Artists list in 2008 and in December 2016, the magazine ranked them as the 90th most successful dance club artist of all time. The group was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, winning twice for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and once for Best R&B Song.

A melody I start but can't complete
Listen to the sound from deep within
Its only beginning to find release
Oh the time has come for my dreams to be heard
They will not be pushed aside and turned
Listen, I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried
To say what's on my mind
You should have known
Now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what
You've made of me
I followed the voice, you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own
You should have listened
There was someone here inside
Someone I thought had died
So long ago
Oh I'm screaming out
And my dreams will be heard
They will not be pushed aside or turned
Into your own
All 'cause you won't listen
Listen, I am alone at a crossroads
I'm not at home in my own home
And I've tried and tried
To say what's on my mind
You should have known
Now I'm done believing you
You don't know what I'm feeling
I'm more than what
You've made of me
I followed the voice, you gave to me
But now I've gotta find my own
I don't know where I belong
But I'll be moving on
If you don't, if you won't
Listen to the song here in my heart
A melody I start, but I will complete
Now I am done believing you
You don't know not what I am feeling
I'm more than what you've made of me
I followed the voice you think you gave to me
But now I got to find my own, my own
The lyrics to Destiny's Child's song Listen express a sentiment of frustration and determination. The singer is pleading with someone to listen to the song in her heart, but feels unheard and misunderstood. She has a dream that she is trying to pursue, but feels as though it is being ignored or pushed aside. The singer wants to be free to follow her own path, but is being held back by the expectations of others.
The opening lines of the song set the stage for the singer's struggle. She starts to sing a melody, but feels as though she can't complete it. This can be interpreted as a metaphor for her own unfulfilled potential. She knows that there is something inside of her that she wants to express, but feels held back by circumstances beyond her control. She pleads with the listener to "listen to the sound from deep within", which is a call to action for everyone to pay attention to their own inner voice.
The chorus of the song is the most impactful section, as it states the message of the song succinctly. The singer proclaims that she is "done believing you" and wants to find her own voice. She has been following someone else's guidance, but now knows that she needs to strike out on her own. The repeated line "you should have known" is a way for the singer to voice her frustration with those who have held her back, and to make it clear that she is capable of achieving her dreams despite their lack of support.
Overall, Listen is a powerful song that communicates the desire to be heard and understood. The singer's journey to find her own voice is relatable to anyone who has felt held back by societal expectations or the opinions of others.
