A Hard Day's Night
Dionne Warwick Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright

You know I work all day to get you money to buy you things
And it's worth it just to hear you say you're going to give me everything
So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
You know I feel OK

When I'm home everything seems to be right
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight

It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright, ow

So why on earth should I moan, 'cause when I get you alone
You know I feel OK

When I'm home everything seems to be right
When I'm home feeling you holding me tight, tight

It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog
It's been a hard day's night, I should be sleeping like a log
But when I get home to you I find the things that you do
Will make me feel alright

You know I feel alright
You know I feel alright

Overall Meaning

The song "A Hard Day's Night" by Dionne Warwick is about a man who is exhausted from working hard all day but feels much better when he comes home to his partner. The opening line "It's been a hard day's night, and I been working like a dog" shows how much work the man has done to earn a living for his partner. Despite the exhaustion he feels, the man still rejoices at the thought of coming back to his partner, whom he finds solace in.

The singer of the song goes on to say that he is happy to work hard for his partner, as she is the reason he works long hours. He is content getting her whatever she wants, and it makes him happy to hear her say that she will give him everything. The song urges the listener that despite the hard work they are going through, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. For the singer of the song, the light is his partner who makes everything worthwhile.
