Taking their musical cues from their early encounters with the classic songwriting of The Beatles, Steely Dan and Randy Newman, Director cite Beck, Grandaddy, Muse and The Strokes, as some of their modern day influences.
Director's debut single, "Reconnect" was released in Ireland and the UK on April 26, 2006. The single stayed in the Irish charts for 12 weeks peaking at number 10.
Director's debut album, "We Thrive on Big Cities" was released on October 6 in the Republic of Ireland and included their debut single, "Reconnect". Within the first week of release, the album had reached number 2 in the Irish album sales charts. The album went on to go Platinum and spent a total of 29 weeks in the Irish chart.
The second single taken from the band's debut album, "Come With a Friend", was released on September 29 of the same year. The third single from the album, "Leave It to Me", was released on January 5 2007. Both these releases were solely in the Republic of Ireland.
The album was nominated for the Choice Music Prize 2006 for Irish album of the year. It was also nominated in the 'Best Irish Album' category at the 2006 Meteor Music Awards at which the band won the award for 'Best New Irish Act' and performed their single "Reconnect" live.
Director have announced that their second album will be released on May 8th, 2009 and is titled "I'll Wait For Sound". They completed the recording of the album with US producer Brad Wood in Los Angeles.
"Sing It Without A Tune" is the first single from the new album and will be released via digital download only, one week before the album on the 1st May.

Moment to Moment
Director Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'll pick you up every day
I'll take what I need
When you are away
Nothing of all the love we have made
Will hold much with me
Will hold much with me
Moment to moment
Moment to moment
I am convinced of you
Convinced of you
But it's easy for me, harder for you
Moment to moment
Moment to moment
I am convinced of you
Convinced of you
But it's harder for me, easy for you
I'll come to your place
When this is all out of the way
No tears or goodbyes
We'll open our eyes
So we can see our love when it dies
And we'll know when it's alive
We'll know when it's alive
Moment to moment
Moment to moment
I am convinced of you
Convinced of you
But it's easy for me, harder for you
Moment to moment
Moment to moment
I am convinced of you
Convinced of you
But it's harder for me, easy for you
It'll make you so sad
I'm allowed
You qualify
Moment to moment
Moment to moment
I am convinced of you
Convinced of you
But it's easy for me, harder for you
Moment to moment
Moment to moment
I am convinced of you
Convinced of you
But it's harder for me, easy for you
In Moment to Moment, Director seems to be pleading with his lover not to stand in his way as he pursues what he needs. He assures them that he will be there every day to pick them up, but when they are away, he acknowledges that the love they’ve made will not hold much weight in his heart. He seems to be living in the moment and convincing himself that he is convinced of their love, but it’s easier for him to feel that way than it is for his partner. He promises to come to their place once everything else is cleared out of the way, and there will be no tears or goodbyes. They’ll open their eyes so they can see their love when it dies and when it’s alive, they’ll know it.
There seems to be an underlying sense of uncertainty and instability in the relationship, with Director almost pre-emptively acknowledging that the end of their love will make his lover sad. He reminds them that he’s allowed to feel this way, and they too qualify for their own emotions. Overall, Moment to Moment captures the fleeting nature of a relationship and the difficulty in maintaining that sense of conviction and stability in love.
