Never Again
Dis-covered Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey
Just let me say
Hey
never again never again

Spinning in the circles
The vicious circles
Where I was sailing

Cry
Under the rain
Today
I'm going away

I
I see the lake
Waves
Take me away

Spinning in the circles
The vicious circles
Where I was sailing

I see the horizon far away
Blue deep ocean sorrow me
This is the day I'm gonna leave

I'm gonna leave from you
And then never again

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Dis-covered's song "Never Again" express a sense of liberation and determination to break free from a toxic and repetitive cycle. The repetition of "Hey, just let me say, never again" serves as a declaration of asserting oneself and refusing to go through the same tumultuous experience again.

The opening lines, "Spinning in the circles, the vicious circles where I was sailing," depict the singer's feeling of being trapped in a never-ending cycle of pain and frustration. The word "spinning" implies a lack of control and direction in their life. They are metaphorically sailing through these cycles, never reaching a stable shore.

The mention of crying under the rain suggests a profound sadness or emotional turmoil. Despite the tears, they assert their determination to move forward, stating "Today, I'm going away." This line signifies a decisive moment of leaving behind the past and embracing a new beginning.

The following lines, "I see the lake, waves take me away," symbolize their longing for escape and a desire for tranquility. The notion of being carried away by the waves signifies surrendering to the natural flow of life and allowing themselves to be enveloped in a new journey.

As the song progresses, the repetition of "spinning in the circles" reinforces the idea of being stuck in a detrimental pattern. However, they see a glimmer of hope in the distance. The singer sees the vast horizon and senses the immense possibilities that lie beyond their current situation. The lyrics express a yearning for the vastness of the ocean, representing both the unknown and the opportunity for renewal.

The final lines, "This is the day I'm gonna leave, I'm gonna leave from you, and then never again," encapsulate the song's main message. The singer affirms their decision to break free from a toxic relationship or situation, promising themselves to never repeat the same mistakes. It is a declaration of self-empowerment and a refusal to be confined to suffering.

Overall, "Never Again" is a song about finding the strength to escape destructive cycles and embrace personal growth and freedom.

Regarding the second story:

Speaking from experience. If you ever find yourself in a situation where you’re choking and you have nobody to help you, stand up, wrap your arms around yourself and grab your back, then throw yourself backwards onto the floor/ground.

I had an experience where I choked in public and was fortunately saved by a police officer. I used that opportunity to learn what to do in case it ever happened again.

A few years later, I was eating and a piece of steak get stuck in my throat. I threw myself down on my back and it came right out.

Choking is extremely scary and maybe this can help somebody if they ever find themselves in the same situation.

Marie honestly sounds like a wonderful neighbor. Minds her business, but also has enough compassion to show concern for a couple drunks when things seem off.

@Necrowolf81

she should have had concern when she saw them in the exact same spot three hours later instead of waiting six. Would still have been too late but that is way too much of a lack of concern. It would be one thing if they had moved a bit.

@Dragonette666

I've literally had to reach into my throat a pull a piece of steak out of it.

I once choked on a fishbone stuck in my throat. My father stuck his finger down my throat & dislodged it. Not many people know that the Heimlich maneuver was named for Dr Heimlich who is the uncle of Anson Williams who played Potsie on Happy Days.
