Jaded
Disclosure Feat. Mary J. Blige Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your words give you away
Be careful how you say my name
Step back, refrain
Be honest when you save some face
'Cause you're fading
Don't mistake me for a fool
The game you play has changed
Take a look at yourself and the stories you tell
Does the truth weigh on your mind?
Tell me what did it cost when the moment was lost
Is this how you survive?

Why, oh why do you have to lie?
What are you afraid of?
We know what you're made of
Now your time has passed you by
You've already made it
There's no need to chase it
So get up, so get up and save it
'Cause enough is enough, you're jaded
Your golden years left you behind
You cannot replace them
Face it or you'll waste them
You cannot replace them
Face it or you'll waste them
You cannot replace them

The gospel that you preach
Is poisonous beyond belief
But still, you'll reach
Be careful of the truth
My speak is amazing
When it's there in black and white for all to see
We sow and you reap

So take a look at yourself and the stories you tell
Does the truth weigh on your mind?
Tell me what did it cost when the moment was lost
Is this how you survive?

Why, oh why do you have to lie?
What are you afraid of?
We know what you're made of
Now your time has passed you by
You've already made it
There's no need to chase it
So get up, so get up and save it
'Cause enough is enough, you're jaded
Your golden years left you behind
You cannot replace them
Face it or you'll waste them
You cannot replace them
Face it or you'll waste them
So get up, so get up and save it
'Cause enough is enough
You're jaded
Your golden years left you behind
You cannot replace them
Face it or you'll waste them
You cannot replace them

Face it or you'll waste them
You cannot replace them

Overall Meaning

The song "Jaded" by Disclosure (feat Sam Smith) tells the story of a person who is being deceived by someone they know. The deception is evident in the way that person speaks and how they refer to the singer. The singer advises this person to be honest in their actions and words, not to take them for a fool, and to refrain from playing games. The singer encourages the person to look at themselves and the stories they tell, to understand the cost of lying and its repercussions, and to be careful of the truth.

The gospel that this person preaches is described as poisonous beyond belief, and they are warned to face the truth before it's too late. The person's golden years have left them behind, and they cannot replace them. The singer believes enough is enough, that this person is jaded, and that it's time to save themselves from the consequences of their lies.

The theme of this song centers around honest communication and being truthful with oneself and others. It conveys the message that lies can hurt people and that one should be careful about the stories they tell because they always come back.

I wouldn't be surprised if this album won Best Album of the Year this coming Grammy season, and here's my reasoning for this theory.

1. Every single has an amazing sound; it's the perfect choice for both relaxation and party.

2. The snippets floating around online and the recent album sampler on Spotify sounds like every song on this album is like the tracks people take from artists they don't exactly love but find those gems that appeal to them. This is Caracel's ENTIRE ALBUM.

3. I'm not speaking from a fan perspective about this, but from an industry perspective. This could easily be classified as a revolutionary album that only shows EDM's power in the music industry. By power I don't just mean in the sales aspect but the meaning behind the music as well.

4. Taking an artist from a different genre and making them look like they belong in another because of how naturally they blend is an incredibly hard thing to do, but this album makes it seem so...seamless.

Well done, brothers Lawrence, you've given the world another reason to define you as one of the greatest artists of our time.

Disclosure makes the kinda music where you listen to it in a certain situation, say a long drive late at night, and you feel like you're on another planet. I love it
