1984 proved their most succesful year, with a sell-out Twice Nightly tour, and their first Dutch chart-topping hit, Love Me Just A Little Bit More. A lot of merchandise was made, incl. the infamous Dolly Dots-dolls. In 1985, Anita left the band due to her pregnancy. In 1986 the Dots shot their Hollywood movie Dutch Treat, but it was not the smash hit they'd hoped for.
In 1987 the girls teamed up with producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman, in hope to crack the British charts. The song "What A Night" proved to be their last original single. The band split up in 1988. In 1993 a Disco remix of "Love Me Just A Little Bit More" was released to promote the Gold album, but the girls did not participate at all themselves. In 1998 all six girls gave a full concert again to promote their double CD The Collection and a R&B remix of What A Night.
In 2004 a musical featuring their best loved songs toured the Netherlands, but did not feature any of the members of the group. In 2007, the band reunited once more to perform during a concert series also featuring other Dutch bands. They also decided to give three (already) sold-out reunion concerts in May 2007. Angela, Ria and Anita were the only members of the band to release solo records, but none were as succesful as their joint efforts as the Dolly Dots. On July 20, 2009, Ria died of cancer. She was only 52 years old.
The Dolly Dots are still listed in the Dutch Guiness Book of Records as the longest running Dutch Girl Band.
Biggest hits: Love Me Just A Little Bit More, Radio, Do Wah Diddy Diddy, Hela-Di-ladi-Lo, PS, S.T.O.P., Don't Give Up, She's A Liar, Do You Wanna Wanna, Boys, Leila and All the Roses.
If This Is Love

I'm the one who is lonely
(He's the one who has all the fun)
I'm the one who stays home at night
(He's the one who goes on the run)
I'm the one who's got heartache
(He's the one who comes home late)
If this is love
You can forget it
If this is love
You'd better forget it
If this is love
I've had enough
If this is love
You're insecure
So immature
You're not so romantic
You've changed a lot
I've always thought
That you were fantastic
(Now you're the one who'll be lonely)
And I'm the one who has all the fun
(You're the one to stay home at night)
And I'm the one who goes on the run
(You're the one who'll have heartache)
And I'm the one who comes home late
If this is love
You can forget it
If this is love
You'd better forget it
If this is love
I've had enough
If this is love
You're insecure
So immature
You're not so romantic
You've changed a lot
I've always thought
That you were fantastic
If this is love
You can forget it
If this is love
You'd better forget it
If this is love
I've had enough
If this is love
If this is love
You can forget it
If this is love
You'd better forget it
If this is love
I've had enough
If this is love
The lyrics of Dolly Dots's hit song "If This Is Love" talk about a relationship where one partner is unhappy, lonely, and heartbroken, while the other partner is out having fun, running away, and coming home late. The song starts with the first partner confessing that she is the one who feels lonely, stays home at night, and has heartache, while the second partner is the one who has all the fun and comes home late. The first partner expresses her dissatisfaction with the relationship and says that if this is love, then she has had enough and the second partner can forget it.
The second partner, who is insecure, immature, and has changed a lot, is accused of not being romantic anymore; however, the first partner used to think that the second partner was fantastic. In the second verse, the roles are reversed, and the first partner becomes the one who has all the fun, goes on the run, and comes home late, while the second partner becomes the one who is lonely, stays home at night, and has heartache. The song ends with a repetition of the chorus, where the first partner again declares that if this is love, then she has had enough.
Overall, the song depicts a relationship that is not fulfilling and where one partner is unhappy and feels neglected, leading to a resolution that the relationship should end if this is all there is to love.
